Wales’s industrial past has left a toxic legacy. As Michael Sheen’s recent BBC documentary “Buried” has devastatingly shown, people are suffering today from chemicals dumped last century.

Heavy metals like lead and arsenic and cancer-causing PCBs, which persist in the environment for decades, are seeping into our soil and water and harming people and wildlife.

We’re calling on the Welsh Government to launch a public inquiry to find out the true scale of the problem, understand the risks and make sure dangerous sites are cleaned up. Will you sign the petition to ensure Wales doesn’t carry its toxic past into the future?

Climate change will only worsen the impact of toxic sites in Wales as deadly chemicals surface and spread into fields and waterways following more intense flooding.

We need a public inquiry now, says Kirsty Luff of Friends of the Earth Cymru.

Add your name to the petition to save Welsh peatlands.

Although peatlands cover only 4% of land in Wales, these precious habitats lock away up to 30% of our carbon, making them one of our most valuable natural assets in the fight against climate change.

Our peatlands are home to rare and endangered species like the Marsh Fritillary butterfly and wading birds like the curlew.

Once they are gone, they are gone. We can't get them back. It takes around 1,000 years to create just one metre of peat.
