🎮Gaming and Wellbeing🎮
Gaming is an increasingly popular hobby, last year 42.7 million games were sold in the UK, and globally there were 3.24 billion gamers.
Gaming, in any form, can provide an escape from ‘normal life’, social interaction and satisfaction from in-game achievements. But there are also some downsides of gaming, including feeling out of control with gaming habits (eg excessive time playing), getting frustrated/angry and gaming getting in the way of responsibilities and goals.
completed a study this year, ‘Exploring the lived experience of players’ mental wellbeing’. The study found that gamers don’t necessarily link their gaming habits and mental wellbeing, and ‘active reflection’ using a gaming log can help to make this link. A free, downloadable gaming log is available at https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/our-work/research/gaming-and-mental-health/gaming-log You can also read the full report on their website and learn more about gaming and wellbeing.
