We are pleased to introduce Bnar Sardar, a Kurdish photographer, visual artist, and documentary filmmaker whose work deeply explores war, displacement, identity, and the lived experiences of women and children.
Bnar began working with Metrography in 2009, photographing across Iraq—including documenting the battle of Mosul. These profound experiences inspired her to use visual storytelling as a tool to bring overlooked stories and conflict-affected communities to light.
After relocating to the UK in 2018, she continued to refine her practice:
🎓 BA in Documentary Photography – University of South Wales (2025)
🎓 Master’s Degree – UWE Bristol (2026)
Now working as a freelance photographer and storyteller, Bnar’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured by major global platforms, including The New York Times, BBC, TIME, Voice of America, UN News, LensCulture, and the National Portrait Gallery. In 2019, she was also selected by UNHCR as a featured Middle Eastern photojournalist for an exhibition in Venice. Bnar Sardar
