"My dad was my biggest supporter, and his loss has made running the Cardiff Half Marathon for Asthma + Lung UK particularly meaningful."
James has asthma and lives in Hertfordshire and is running the Cardiff Half Marathon for us on October 4th. He’s running in memory of his dad Ian, who died from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in October 2025.
"I wanted to choose a lung-related charity to run for in his memory and as someone who also lives with asthma, Asthma + Lung UK felt like a very fitting choice. This will be my first time running for the charity, and I’m incredibly proud to be able to use my passion for fundraising to support such an important cause.
"I was due to run Cardiff Half last year, however I made the difficult decision not to leave my dad’s bedside in hospital although he really wanted me to do it, so this year really does feel even more so that it’s for him.
"Although there is always an element of excitement when taking part in an event like this, I know this run will be a particularly emotional journey for me. I’ll be thinking of my dad every step of the way and all those who have been affected by lung disease.
"I’m incredibly lucky to have such amazing support around me, and I’ll be joined by several members of my family on the day. Having them there will make the experience even more special.
"When I ran my first 10k in 2019, I was certainly no runner, and I never imagined that one event would lead to something that would become such an important part of my life. I’ve taken part in numerous running events for charity, including the last four London Marathons, and since 2021 I’ve been incredibly proud to have raised more than £45,000 for charity."
