Please take extra care if you’re camping or enjoying the outdoors this weekend

With many of our Groups away on camps and summer activities, please be aware of the very high risk of wildfires currently affecting Wales and England.

You will probably have had the UK Government issued emergency alert urging people not to light fires or do anything that could create a spark and start a wildfire.

That includes:

* Campfires and open fires
* Disposable barbecues
* Firepits
* Fireworks
* Anything else involving a naked flame that could ignite dry grass or vegetation

The prolonged hot, dry weather means that even a very small fire can spread incredibly quickly, putting people, property, wildlife and our emergency services at risk.

If you’re away with Scouts this weekend or planning outdoor activities over the coming days, please take the warning seriously, adapt your plans where necessary and follow the latest advice for the area you’re in.

We all love spending time outdoors. Right now, looking after those outdoor spaces means doing everything we can to prevent a fire from starting.

Marilyn's Funeral arrangements:

September 3rd, 10.30 at Thornhill Crematorium.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Marilyn Hendricksen passed away suddenly on Saturday 1st August 2026.

Marilyn dedicated an incredible 53 years of service as a Cub Leader with Kestrel Cub Scout Pack, 29th Cardiff, making a lasting difference to the lives of generations of young people and volunteers. Her commitment, kindness, enthusiasm, and unwavering support embodied the very best of Scouting. She helped countless Cubs develop confidence, friendships, skills, and memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. Her contribution to Scouting in Cardiff was truly remarkable, and her legacy will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Marilyn was a much-loved member of the Scouting family, and she will be deeply missed by everyone at 29th Cardiff, and across the wider Scout community.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Rex and all of the family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you, Marilyn, for your years of service, dedication, and friendship. Rest in peace.
