Cardiff and Vale Scouts Celebrate Big Birthday Bash 🎉

More than 450 Scouts from across Cardiff and Vale Scouts came together at Jubilee Campsite in the Vale of Glamorgan on Saturday 26 September to celebrate a trio of milestone anniversaries at a spectacular Big Birthday Bash.

The event marked five years of Squirrels, 40 years of Beavers, and 110 years of Cubs, with hundreds of young members enjoying a packed programme of adventurous and fun-filled activities throughout the day.

Activities included archery, tomahawk throwing, crate stacking, laser shooting, pizza making, through to drumming, bottle rockets, pony petting from Hazy Days – Helping Hooves and more. A bouncy castle and an ice cream van added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy from the 30+ activities on offer.

Young people and volunteers sang Happy Birthday to each section around a campfire before enjoying their own birthday cupcake and receiving a commemorative event badge to mark the occasion.

Chris Parsons, Area Programme Team Leader, said:

“This is one of the largest events Cardiff and Vale Scouts has organised in recent years and has involved months of planning and preparation. It simply would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our fantastic volunteers, who gave up their time to create such a memorable experience for our young people. We were also lucky enough to enjoy some good weather, which made the day even more special.”

William, aged 12, from 61st Cardiff Scouts, said:
“The Big Birthday Bash was a fantastic event! I was helping to make popcorn, and seeing the pure joy on the Squirrels’, Beavers’ and Cubs’ faces made my day. I loved having the opportunity to teach them some cooking skills, and I can’t wait to use those skills again at camp. Thank you to everyone who helped organise such a brilliant event!”

International Scouting Friendship – Wales to Louisiana!

It was fantastic to welcome Steve Beatty, Scoutmaster from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, to Wales while visiting his long-time Scouting friend, Mick Lynn.

During his international visit, Steve had the opportunity to spend time with the Kingfisher Cub Pack – 29th Cardiff West and our Phoenix Explorer Unit, where badges and scarves were exchanged as a symbol of international Scouting friendship.

On Monday 21st September, Steve also spent the day at Jubilee Scout Campsite, joining our campsite team and working group, getting involved and seeing some of the exciting developments taking place across the site.

Chris was delighted to present Steve with a special set of badges as a reminder of his time with us at Jubilee.

Steve thoroughly enjoyed his visits and the opportunity to experience Scouting here in Wales — although working on our 5-acre campsite probably felt like a bit of a break from the 66-acre Scout campsite he helps to look after back home!

A brilliant example of how Scouting friendships can reach across the world.

Thank you for visiting, Steve — we hope to see you back in Wales again sooon

A Heartfelt Thank You

What an incredible day at our Big Birthday Bash Jubilee Scout Campsite - Maes gwersylla Sgowtiaid y Jiwbilî!

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to every volunteer who helped make today such a tremendous success. From the planning and organisation of Chris, the Jubilee Team and others, to all the volunteers who came along to run activity bases, your enthusiasm, commitment and generosity made a real difference.

A very special mention must go to our Explorers, who were truly incredible throughout the day. You represented Scouting brilliantly, stepping up wherever needed, supporting younger sections, and bringing energy, positivity and fun to every activity.

Thank you also to all the volunteers who attended with our Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs. Your encouragement, support and care helped create a safe, welcoming and exciting experience for every young person involved.

As I looked around today, seeing the excitement, laughter and smiles on the faces of our young people, I was reminded exactly what Scouting is all about. It is about giving young people opportunities to grow, make friends, try new things, build confidence and create memories that will last a lifetime. None of that happens without dedicated volunteers like you.

Thank you for your time, your energy and your unwavering commitment to Scouting. You made today a day to remember.

With sincere gratitude
