Another night of attacks across Ukraine.

One of the strikes in Kyiv hit the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the main church of the monastery complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic and deeply significant religious landmark caught fire during the attack.

In Kyiv, at least four people have been killed and 25 injured following a large-scale overnight assault by Russian forces. Residential buildings have been damaged, fires have broken out across the city, and power supplies have been disrupted.

In Kharkiv, five firefighters were killed and at least five others injured in a second Russian strike on the same location while they were responding to the aftermath of an earlier attack.

Sumy, Dnipro and Odesa have also come under attack once again.

Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, taking lives, shattering families, and leaving destruction in its wake. We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to stand with us and support Ukraine.

Dear friends!
Today, Ukrainians all over the world are celebrating Kyiv Day, and YoU HuB has also added its own small contribution to the sea of congratulations for our indomitable capital.
We reviewed Kyiv’s anthem and the legend of the city’s founding with the children. Our youngest participants made one of the capital’s unofficial symbols — a chestnut leaf.
We believe that Kyiv will stand firm in this war, and that the blue and yellow flag will continue to fly over the Dnipro hills for many centuries to come as a symbol of the freedom, strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
Happy Kyiv Day! 💙💛

Today is Kyiv Day.

Happy Birthday to our beloved city and its remarkable people.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to protect Kyiv and make life in our city possible.

Happy Kyiv Day. 💙💛

Сьогодні наш Київ святкує день народження.

Зі святом, дороге місто та незламні люди.

Дякуємо тим, хто захищає Київ і робить можливим цей день.

З Днем Києва. 💙💛

Today Ukrainians around the world mark Vyshyvanka Day — an international day dedicated to the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt known as the vyshyvanka.

First started by students in Ukraine in 2006, Vyshyvanka Day has grown into a global symbol of Ukrainian identity, cultural heritage, and resilience.

For many Ukrainians displaced by Russia’s war against Ukraine, wearing a vyshyvanka is more than tradition. It is a way to stay connected to home, family, and community wherever they are in the world.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Vyshyvanka Day, with people across Ukraine and around the world joining together in support of Ukrainian culture and occupied communities.

Today, we stand with Ukrainians in Ukraine, across the UK, and worldwide. 💙💛

Our community is mourning the loss of 11-year old Maksym Veremchuk, who was killed in Kyiv on 16 April by a Russian missile strike.

Maksym lived with his mother Nataliia and his brother in Whitstable for a year and a half before returning home to Ukraine. Maksym was one of ours.

His family has started a fundraiser in his memory. Please consider contributing, sharing, or simply taking a moment to remember a child who deserved so much more life:

Rest in peace, Maksym. We will remember you.

It has been an honour to be involved in the organisation of a charity concert in memory of Sasha — a bright and inspiring young girl whose story continues to touch so many hearts. 💛

Together with the Таблеточки Charity Foundation, Sasha’s parents Arin Ghosh and Olga Ghosh, Alexandra Ghosh Memorial Foundation (Sasha's Voice), St Cosmas & St Damian we joined efforts to honour her life while also supporting children in Ukraine who are currently undergoing cancer treatment 🏥

In total, £5,472.78 was raised through our contribution to this initiative.

We are sincerely grateful to everyone who became part of this effort. Together, we were able to make a meaningful difference and help those who need it most. 🌍

📚 A milestone moment for the Ukrainian Discussion Group

Last week, our Ukrainian Discussion Group reached an important milestone — for the first time, we presented an English-language book during our session.

We were delighted to welcome author Justine Gilbreth, who joined us with her novel “The Anna Puzzle”, a story in which Ukrainian history is intertwined with global narratives.

During the session, participants learned more about the author’s background and creative journey, followed by a lively and engaging discussion that brought everyone into the conversation.

This meeting marked an important step for the group — opening up new opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue and deeper understanding between Ukrainian and international literature.

We are sincerely grateful to Justine Gilbreth for joining us and for sharing a book that highlights Ukrainian themes within a wider global context.

💛💙 This is just the beginning of new conversations to come.

On Sunday, 22 March, Canterbury for Ukraine Ladies’ Choir performed Songs from Home at the beautiful St Mary's Church in Stelling Minnis.
The atmosphere created by the Stelling Minnis community, the feeling of being in the local church of our conductor Joanna Chapman and accompanist David Chapman, and the first public performance of a new song, all made this concert feel very special.
As there will be an official premiere of our new song at a later date, we won’t give away too many details for now! However, the original idea for the song by Lily Keleberdenko and its musical realisation by composer Andrew Hedges certainly turned into something really special, & it felt very meaningful that it was performed at this particular concert.
We are really grateful to Zandra Slucky, Olivia Grove, Roz Browne & Pam Burgess at St Mary’s Church, who organised such a special concert. Thank you all for your hard work, & also for your lovely gifts. Your candles will stay with us and remind us of this day for a long time.
Thank you to the Stelling Minnis community and to everyone who was with us that afternoon. Many of you were at our concert for the first time, and it meant a lot to hear your kind words afterwards.
Thank you to Arin Ghosh, Michael Richardson, Artur Imanov and Volodymyr Nizalov - our regular supporters who are always there for us.
And thank you to all our choir members who sang so beautifully, & prepared such delicious treats for the guests after the concert.
During the evening, £1,375 was raised. Despite the fact that the historic church of St Mary’s is in need of repair, the organisers kindly chose to donate £1000 to Canterbury for Ukraine. Thank you so much for your generosity. Your kindness and support makes such a huge difference.
Thank you to everyone involved - we’re really looking forward to seeing you again!
