Today, on Windrush Day, we remember the generations who arrived from the Caribbean and helped build modern Britain.

They came to the UK, bringing with them them culture, community and resilience. Along the way they faced prejudice and barriers.

We honour their legacy. We celebrate their contribution. We recognise the importance of continuing the fight against racism and injustice wherever it exists.

It’s the final day of National Delegates Conference, bringing to a close to an incredibly important week for UNISON democracy.

We have spent the week debating motions, shaping policy and ensuring the voices of our members are heard at a national level.

UNISON is member-led organisation, and our democratic structures are one of our greatest strengths. Every speech, vote and contribution helps build a stronger union for all.

Our branch was proud to support the Hidden Disabilities motion at NDC.

For too long, hidden disabilities have gone unseen, it’s time to change that.

There is a call for action to:

- Raise awareness of hidden disabilities
- Support members to feel safe being open
- Create inclusive workplaces and union spaces

Together, we can break down stigma and ensure every member feels seen, supported, and able to participate fully.

Great to meet two inspiring WASPI women.

3.8 million women were impacted by pension age changes, many with little or no notice.

UNISON has long supported WASPI women in their fight for justice. The Ombudsman found this was a failure and recommended compensation. Yet women are still waiting for justice.

This is about fairness. And it’s long overdue.

At the Unison Conference this week here’s Daniel Gould, Canterbury City Unison Branch Secretary, supporting his WASPI Mum, Susan. We need more
Daniel’s 😀.

I’m attending UNISON’s Local Government Service Group Conference for the first time this weekend which will be followed by National Delegates Conference and will continue for the rest of the week ahead. It’s inspiring to see our unions democracy in action.

Delegates from across the country are debating motions on issues that matter to local government workers and the communities we serve, from defending workplace rights and improving pay and conditions, to campaigning for better public services and equality for all.

Our union is much more than representation when things go wrong. It’s thousands of members coming together to shape policy, stand up for one another, and fight for positive change.

Proud to be representing our branch.

🌱 UNISON Year of Green Activity: Save water, save money 💧

As part of UNISON’s Year of Green Activity, we’re sharing simple, practical ways we can all make a difference at home.

We get plenty of rainfall yet much of it goes straight down the drain. Using a water butt helps you:

- Save money
- Protect the environment (by reducing the pressure on local water supplies)
- Cut carbon (less energy needed to treat and pump water)
- Support wildlife & plants (rainwater is better for gardens)

Save Water Save Money in connection with South East Water offers discounted or subsidised water butts, making it an affordable option for most. See the link in the comments.
