Canterbury Speakers Club

Canterbury Speakers Club www.publicspeakingclubkent.co.uk Everyone at Chaucer Speakers club is supportive. Experienced speakers can progress at a more rapid pace if they desire.

Chaucer Speakers club in Canterbury is a friendly and successful club, where you can develop and practice communication skills as well as enjoying prepared and impromptu speeches given by everyone from inexperienced members to the very best speakers the country has to offer. Meetings are structured yet informal and allow you to develop at a comfortable pace, guided by other speakers, without being

rushed. Don't worry if you are afraid of speaking infront of other people. One of the main reasons that the ASC (Association of Speakers Clubs) approach is so successful is that it builds communication skills step by step in one of the most supportive environments you will find. We will help you to control your nerves and enable you to become more confident and eloquent. Every contributor to our meetings receives constructive evaluation from which we all learn. Tactful feedback is vital for anyone keen to develop their communication skills and all Chaucer members, however confident and eloquent, know there is room for improvement. Most importantly, it's a lot of fun and you'll make some good friends too.

๐ŸŽค Our last meeting was another lively and inspiring evening at our Speakers Club!

๐Ÿ“… Join us at the Canterbury City Show on 25th July at 2pm in the Guildhall, near Westgate! We'll be showcasing how our club works, with opportunities to learn about public speaking, leadership, and personal development. Come along and say helloโ€”we'd love to meet you!

๐Ÿ† Congratulations to Higy, who successfully passed the A5 Speechโ€”the final speech of the Advanced Level and assessed by an external examiner. A fantastic achievement!

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Robin chaired the Impromptu Speaking Session for the first time and brought along some excellent topics that sparked lively discussion. Congratulations to Hilary, who won the trophy.

๐ŸŒŸ Novlyn also took on the role of General Evaluator for the first time. Her eloquent delivery, detailed observations, and insightful feedback provided a superb wrap-up to the evening.

Another great night of learning, laughter, and encouragement. We hope to see many of you at the Canterbury City Show on 25th July!

In May, we celebrated some fantastic achievements: Robin delivered his first prepared speech, Ieaun completed his first evaluation, and Ben won the Impromptu Trophy at his very first meeting with us.

Tonight, on a beautiful evening after the UK's hottest May, we welcomed two guests who are already experienced speakers. And once again, Richard, our Education Lead, impressed us all by winning the Impromptu Trophy. Some things never change โ€” he is always terrific! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ†

What a phenomenal weekend for our Speakers Club! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ†

At the National Conference in Brighton, our dream team โ€” Ben, Higy, Hilary and Mark โ€” stormed the stage and were crowned National Team Competition Champions๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‘‘ with their winning performance: Actions Speak Louder on the theme What is Love. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ‘

And the triumphs didnโ€™t stop thereโ€ฆ Ben also took 2nd place in the National Evaluation Speech Competition โ€” an outstanding personal achievement! ๐Ÿฅˆ๐ŸŽค

The two-day event, held at a beautiful seafront hotel in Brighton, was packed with excitement: four different competitions, two inspiring seminars, one workshop, and all wrapped up with a glamorous gala dinner ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโœจ ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐ŸŒŸBlack tie, elegant gowns, and a night to remember๐ŸŒ

And the winning spirit carried straight into this week! At Mondayโ€™s regular meeting, we had a fantastic turnout, and Sery won the Impromptu Trophy at his very first session with us! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘

What a club. What a team. What a momentum.

Two weeks ago, Sean stepped up and took on his very first evaluation of an impromptu speech ๐Ÿ‘ โ€” a fantastic milestone!

Since then, our Club has been fully focused on preparing for the Team National Competition in Brighton at the end of Aprilโ€ฆ and the energy is building ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Tonight, our competition team officially came together and delivered a strong rehearsal in front of a live audience โ€” confidence is high and weโ€™re readyโ€ฆ weโ€™re going to smash it!!! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

A special shoutout to Novyln for leading her very first Impromptu Chairmanship tonight โ€” beautifully done! ๐ŸŒŸ

And to top it off, we had a rare and fun moment: a tie for the Impromptu Trophy ๐Ÿ† between Robin and his wife Margaret โ€” what a night!

Exciting times aheadโ€ฆ Brighton, here we come! ๐Ÿš€

Last week Monday, we held our first online meeting since COVID due to the unfortunate meningitis situation locally๐Ÿ˜”. Despite the circumstances, we had a fantastic turnout and everyone really enjoyed the session ๐Ÿ˜€

Last Sunday, many of our club members went to London to support James in the Impromptu Speech Competition and Ben in the Evaluation Speech Competition at the annual London regional contest๐ŸŒŸ. The standard was incredibly high๐ŸŽ–๏ธ with many outstanding speakers taking part.

Weโ€™re thrilled to share that Ben won the Evaluation Speech Championship! ๐Ÿ† Heโ€™ll be heading to the National Competition in Brighton โ€” and of course, weโ€™ll be there to cheer him on ๐ŸŽ‰โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‚

From ๐Ÿ‘ first-time Chair Sean, to first-time speaker Violet, to first-time evaluator Ieaun โ€” we had a fantastic night ๐Ÿ‘ filled with inspiring speeches and great energy.

The impromptu session was run by Richard, with fantastic topics inspired by The Sound of Music ๐ŸŽถ โ€” full of fun, creativity, and positive vibes...winner: Higy๐Ÿ˜Š

A special mention goes to Mark for delivering the Final General Evaluation ๐ŸŒŸโ€” truly the last but not least role of the evening.
This important session brings everything together by evaluating the Chair and earlier evaluators, and wrapping up the night with encouragement and reflection๐ŸŽ‡

Monday night was fantastic for sharpening our public ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ speaking skills!
We were lucky to have the experienced judge and speaker, Bernie, lead us through an inspiring coaching session.

Our impromptu speeches were themed around the Winter Olympics โ›ท๏ธ๐Ÿ’โ›ธ๏ธ, thanks Kirsty for this wonderful idea. One of the funniest topics was Hot Chocolate and Ice Skating.

Sean was the champion ๐Ÿ† of the night!

Last night was truly special โœจ Our once-a-year in-house competition for impromptu and evaluation speeches was both inspiring and uplifting.

Huge congratulations to our four winners, who will go on to represent our club at the Kent Competition ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘

With an exceptionally experienced external judge sharing thoughtful feedback, the evening felt like a real stepping stone in our public-speaking journey ๐Ÿ‘

What makes this club so special is the genuine support we give one another โ€” cheering for every speaker and staying curious as we continue to grow and explore new techniques ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

The evening was full of festive spirit, and joyful impromptu speeches. We began with three inspiring prepared speeches, then continued the celebrations with a fun Christmas impromptu session in our cosy private bar.

One of the things we love most about our meetings is the chance to relax, chat, and really get to know one another in a warm and chic bar during the break. Last night, that space became the perfect setting for Christmas games, impromptu speaking, mince pies, and plenty of ๐Ÿท๐Ÿป.

A heartfelt thank you to Tyler, the friendliest bar manager, for making us feel so welcome.

Join us for speeches and great company in 2026 ๐Ÿค
Our first meeting is on the 5th January โญ
