R World is a charity celebrating the life of Robbie Curtis, aiming to facilitate further training in first aid for mental health within schools and universities & support international development projects. R World is a foundation in memory of Robbie Curtis, with the initiative to promote positive mental health, and support development projects in Africa. He had a passion for philosophy and a love for travel. He was kind-hearted and incredibly loved by everyone that knew him. In 2020, we tragically lost Robbie to his battle with mental health and decided to mirror his desire to help others with a project dedicated to doing just this. Through our work, we hope to create a positive change in the way mental health is understood and help others who are suffering with the same issues that Robbie faced, eliminating the stigma that so often comes with this in the process. And they’re off! 💪🏼

A few days in and Harv, Seamus and Tom are already finding their stride, walking sticks and all.

The boys set off on Tuesday to run round Britain’s coastline through the depths of winter, raising money for their Keep the Light On campaign to support R World’s mental health projects in Robbie’s memory.

We're teaming up with Winter Mission Britain 💙

Tomorrow, Harv, Seamus and Tom set off to run round Britain’s coastline through the depths of winter: 5,240 miles and 84,000m of climbing, more than nine times the height of Everest, in just 180 days. They'll carry all their kit and sleep wherever they stop.

Winter's long, dark days can be hard on our mental health. Keep the Light On is the team's mental health campaign. It's built on a simple idea: moving, getting outside and looking out for each other can help us through the darkest months. 💫

Two of the team grew up with Robbie, going to school and playing football together. Supporting R World is their way of helping others in his memory. Robbie loved being outdoors and staying active, so we're proud to be part of this campaign.

Funds raised for Keep the Light On will come to R World to support our mental health projects. Your support has already helped us train young people in mental health first aid and open Robbie's Library in Malawi, and this could help us do so much more.

Huge congratulations to Ben Mitchell, who crossed the finish line at the Weymouth Half Ironman in 6 hours and 55 minutes, all in aid of R World 🎉

Ben and Robbie were coursemates at the University of Nottingham, and really great friends. Ben still laughs about setting an hourly reminder on nights out at Ocean, just to meet Robbie at the bar for a Jägerbomb. He was there every single time. 🕺

After months of training, Ben and everyone who kindly sponsored him have raised an incredible £1,220 for R World, funding more books, equipment and furniture for our library in Malawi. This supports the education of orphaned and vulnerable children in the community, exactly the kind of international development work Robbie himself dreamed of doing. 🌍

Today marks six years since we lost Robbie.

Robbie was curious, kind, and always looking for ways to help people. At 12, that meant selling toys on the beach to raise enough money to save a few acres of Amazon rainforest. By his twenties, it meant a first class geography degree and a scholarship to study international development, with plans for a career spent working in Africa. Six years on, that’s still what drives everything we do.

In that time we’ve trained young people in mental health first aid, sent thousands of books to the community library we built in Robbie’s memory in Malawi, and watched students at Nottingham receive the geography award named after Robbie.

Robbie found meaning in helping others and that continues to inspire everything we do at R World. This is just the beginning. 💫

Our seventh R News is out now, with an update on everything we've been up to 💙

The library in Chitimba is going from strength to strength, with over 3,000 books now on their way thanks to Books2Africa and the generosity of donors including Robbie's old school, The Langton.

We also share news of this year's Robbie Curtis Geography Award at the University of Nottingham.

4 years ago today we lost Robbie.

It never gets easier to accept, but from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you for all of your continued support throughout these years.

We have achieved so much with R World in his memory, and we know he’d be so grateful to everyone who has played a part in this journey.

From runs, cycles, and moustache growing, to funding first aid for mental health training for over 50 lecturers and teachers. Not only this, but we have now built a community library in Chitimba, Malawi.

Our next goal is to raise £3500 to fill the library with things like desks, books, laptops, computers and wifi.

As a special touch, we would love to fill the library with some of Robbie’s favourite books, as well as some favourites from you, our R World Community.
