Come along to The Hub Cafe & Art Group this Friday and spend some time getting creative, enjoying good food and connecting with others.

This week we’re experimenting with crayons and exploring all the different ways they can be used in art — from drawing and rubbing to melting, layering, scraping and creating textures. We’ll also have crochet available for anyone who fancies giving it a go or bringing along their own project.

The Art Group is completely FREE — there’s no need to book, just turn up and join in. You can stay for as little or as long as you like, whether you want to get creative, have a chat, meet new people or simply enjoy a coffee and some company.

And if you’re feeling hungry, our healthy, hearty and affordable menu will be available, with main courses just £4.50 and desserts £3 plus barista coffee at £2.50.

You can also browse our selection of plants, gifts, September scarf sale and cards while you’re here.

WE NEED YOU!

We’re looking for a wonderful volunteer to help us with something very simple but really useful at The Hub and Community Fridge — cleaning jam jars!

We’re looking for someone who could:

• Collect our washed jam jars from The Hub once a week
• Give them a really good clean and remove any labels
• Return them to us within the same week it doesn’t need to be same day just as long as we have them ready to refill.

It’s a small job, but it makes a big difference and helps us to reuse and reduce waste while keeping our Community Fridge running smoothly.

If you have a little time each week and would be happy to take on this regular volunteer role, we’d love to hear from you.

Could this be you?

Please send us a message or speak to one of the team at The Hub.

Thank you for helping us keep our community going — one jam jar at a time!

Thank you, Hygiene Bank Canterbury. We had the pleasure of being joined by two very special little helpers at The Hub — the mini Hygiene Bank volunteers!

We want to say a huge thank you to The Hygiene Bank Canterbury for their continued support of our Community Fridge.

When people think about food poverty, they often think about the food that goes on the table. But there are other essentials that families can struggle to afford too — toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, sanitary products, nappies, washing detergent and other basic toiletries.

This is known as hygiene poverty, and it is a much bigger issue than many people realise.

The Hygiene Bank’s latest research found that:

• 4.2 million adults in the UK are living in hygiene poverty — around 1 in 12 adults.

• 69% of people experiencing hygiene poverty have had to choose between paying for essentials such as food and bills and buying toiletries or cleaning products.

• 65% of parents experiencing hygiene poverty have had to choose between buying hygiene products for themselves or for their children.

• 42% have gone without deodorant because they couldn’t afford it, while 46% have gone without laundry detergent or cleaning products.

These aren’t luxuries. They are the everyday basics that help people feel clean, confident and able to take part in everyday life. (thehygienebank.com)

That’s why the support of organisations like The Hygiene Bank Canterbury makes such a difference at The Hub. Being able to include essential hygiene items alongside our Community Fridge support means families don’t have to make quite so many impossible choices.

And sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

So thank you to every volunteer, donor and supporter who helps make this possible — and a very special thank you from our two mini Hygiene Bank helpers!

Everyone deserves access to the basics. No one should have to choose between feeding their family and keeping them clean.
