Did you know the Students' Union collect crisp packets in order for them to be recycled and to raise money for the Air Ambulance?

And We arent the only ones! With collection points in Public services area and science collecting them as part of the walkers scheme, you can always find somewhere in the college to make the most of your empty crisp packet!

Research carried out by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2017 found that there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050, so what can we do to help reduce this??

Use metal cutlery instead of plastic when eating

Use a reusable cup instead of paper or plastic cups (DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FROM MANY PLACES)

Use a tap or water dispenser for water instead of buying bottled water. It is also an expensive luxury and you could be spending money on something much better

Many other ideas can be found online, especially under https://www.nomoreplastic.co/

No More Plastic is an initiative created to generate public awareness about plastic pollution and to advocate the need for alternatives to single use plastic products. Our goal is the end of single use plastics flowing into our ocean.

We recently celebrated Sustainability week and for just over 1 week we collected 1216 bottles.

Canterbury College has 37 weeks in the academic year.

if we collected this amount of bottles each week, that would equal 44,992 bottles used over 1 academic year.

Lets assume that these bottles only represent the bottles that would be recycled by students.

Given that only 1 in 5 bottles are recycled that could mean that the college consumes 224,960 single use plastic bottles each academic year.
