UKTC recently posted an article about the top 5 problems making 40k more accessible (link in comments).
Here's why I think Kent does not have these problems and is the best place for 40k in UK π¬π§ I'm obviously bias, but I also happen to know that there is great 40k happening all over the UK. The picture is from my own November Teams event co-run with Voidstorm Games that was attended by 150 players. For Kent, here's my initial thoughts belowπ
1) '' Getting a game is often unreliable unless you already know the right people'' - Kent is home to numerous games nights and venues including Da Boss Bunka, Barming War Games Club, Gothic Games Canterbury Community Hobby Sessions, Canterbury Crusaders, TWC Events, The Long Rest Canterbury, Dice & Destiny Tabletop Store, and more!!
2) '' Weekly tournaments arenβt always consistently available locally and when they are, they can be high-friction'' I have to say mixed messaging here. UKTC penalise TOs for clashing dates. The ITC (the official GW rankings) are probably the way to go with this one. More events meams more opportunities to play. I'm curious to see how that circle is squared.
3)' 'The competitive journey exists, now weβre making it deeper, clearer, and more accessible everywhere'' I cannot speak for everywhere, but GGC already caters to this with numerous opportunities to obtain Golden Tickets, for example the The Kent Major 2026: Warhammer 40,000. Many aforementioned groups are building towards similar systems that fit their local player base.
4) '' There isnβt a credible career pathway for the very best players'' - my personal take, but' the best' is hugely subjective. I honestly think this is a 'problem' that could be applied to anything. Others may disagree, post in the comments!
5) '' The hobby isnβt consistently supported across life stages, from early teens through retirement''. While I cannot speak for all local groups, having established Warhammer Alliance Canterbury and guided hobbyists from the ages 11-18 from over 25 schools in Kent, I can confidently say that this is not the case in Canterbury. I have you covered and am training others to hold the mantle when I'm gone. Also, the hobby is so much more than winning games; it's painting, modelling, collecting, reading, writing, Space Marine 2 and everything in between.
I'd love to hear what other communities think. Do you agree? Disagree?

What isn't mentioned is giving back. Last year GGC raised over Β£4000 for charity. This year, we have already donated over Β£1000 worth of terrain and raised over Β£500 and we're just getting started.
There's no denying the incredible work UKTC have carried out in building the UK event scene. They now host the largest 40k event on the planet.
The hobby is thriving right now and it's only going to grow! Break the walls down, share the fantastic effort that organisers, hobbyists, TOs, painters, players, lore enthusiasts and many more are pursuing.
