Exercise Resolute Bear 🐻

Last weekend, 31 cadets from across Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing took part in Exercise RESOLUTE BEAR at RAF Cosford.

The weekend saw 12 cadets achieve Silver Leadership, supported by Flight Sergeant Adnitt, one of the Wing’s Gold Leadership cadets. Cadets also joined the Wing Drill & Ceremonial team for training in arms drill using the L116 Parade Purpose Rifle, banner drill and advanced parade drill.

Across the weekend, cadets built their confidence, discipline and teamwork through a busy programme of practical training. The Drill & Ceremonial training culminated in a formal ceremonial parade, bringing together the skills developed throughout the weekend and supporting the Wing Drill & Ceremonial Squadron’s preparation for future public events and displays.

Alongside cadet training, staff from WBW and the CCF also took part in a Bronze Leadership Train the Trainer course. We look forward to seeing them support the delivery of Bronze Leadership training in the future.

A huge thank you to all staff and directing staff who gave up their time to support the weekend and make the exercise a success.

Next up is Exercise TRIUMPHANT BEAR in May, which will include the Drill Training Instructor Cadet course and Bronze Leadership ahead of Wing Competition Day. Speak to your squadron staff if you are interested.

All training is done under the supervision of qualified Arms Drill Instructors.

W&B L98 Range Weekend

Nineteen cadets spent the weekend at RAF Cosford, working through the progressive shooting syllabus on the L98A2 rifle. The focus was on safe weapon handling, marksmanship and steady progression on the range, with cadets building confidence and competence throughout despite facing wind, rain, hail and sunshine.

All cadets were re-tested on the weapon system, alongside refresher training on initial weapon handling and skills. Staff were also given the opportunity to fire the L114A1, further developing their own range experience.

The final day also saw a visit from OC W&B Wing, observing training and speaking with cadets and staff.

A strong weekend of hands-on training, delivered to a high standard with clear development throughout. As always a big thank you to the Wing Shooting Team for making it happen.

Cadets in Enterprise 💡🧠

Today, we had our first cohort of Cadets in Enterprise at Wing HQ, delivered in partnership with . Cadets had both an enjoyable and challenging time during their first session as they began developing their business ideas.

The programme introduces cadets to enterprise, leadership and employability, focusing on how ideas can develop into viable business concepts. During the session, cadets explored opportunities, considered customer needs and started shaping their pitches for the next stage of the course.

If any of the above interests you, speak to your squadron staff who will be able to provide more information.

Exercise Roaring Bear 🐻

This weekend, 33 cadets from across Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing took part in Exercise ROARING BEAR at RAF Cosford.

The weekend saw:
21 cadets pass the Junior NCO Course
12 cadets pass the Senior NCO Course
3 candidates successfully pass the Pre-CIC Course, ahead of completing their Combined Initial Course at RAF Cranwell in the coming year.

Across the camp, cadets developed their understanding of the role of an NCO through training in drill, welfare, discipline, uniform standards, leadership, management and teamwork, supported by command tasks and classroom-based lessons throughout the weekend. This also marked the first delivery of the redeveloped JNCO and SNCO courses, created by Wing Warrant Officer Pritchett and FS Lewis, and the first Wing training weekend led by our new Wing Training Officer, Flt Lt Seymour.

A huge thank you to all of the Directing Staff who gave up their time to make the weekend a success.

If any of the above interests you, keep an eye out for Exercise RESOLUTE BEAR. The Warning Order is now out - speak to your squadron staff if you are interested.
