Coming up this week is the village's Annual Parish Meeting. We will be doing a short presentation on Friends of Duxford Churches and how it has evolved over the past few months into a formalised charity. All are welcome to attend, and it will be held at the Duxford Community Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 March. We hope to see some of you there!

In August 2018 St Peter's, Duxford was yet another victim of lead thieves. The damage and distress was tremendous but, like all solid communities, Duxford made sure its church would get back on its feet.

In 2024 the aisles were insulated and re-roofed in terne-coated steel, thanks to the support of Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust, Thalia Community Fund, National Churches Trust, Friends of Duxford Churches and private donors.

The planning for Phase II, the re-roofing of the nave, will probably begin in 2026/27 and should secure the church for the next generation and beyond. If you'd like to know more about our work or make a donation, please contact us at [email protected]

There is a new charity in Duxford which will look after fundraising for specific projects at St John's Church and nearby St Peter's Church. You can follow Friends of Duxford Churches on their own account and receive updates on their events this year and beyond. If you'd like to volunteer for them, just drop them a DM!

Although Friends of Duxford Churches is a new charity, we have been fundraising as a team for over two years.

We have already notched up 3 Christmas Tree Festivals, 2 open gardens, a flower festival, an art show & sale, a summer garden party, talks, and sold more tea & cake than we care to admit.

We have some plans in 2026 to continue fundraising for St Peter's Church on Chapel Street, and St John the Baptist on Green Street. Most in need though is St Peter's as the nave roof urgently needs stripping and weatherproofing.

Look out for our events in the Duxford Chatterbox, posters and social media posts. We also hope to have a website up and running by summer 2026. If you'd like to volunteer with us you can write any time to [email protected]

The scores on the doors are in, and the third Duxford Christmas Tree Festival was another success! After costs, we raised £2,589.56 which is another record.

Our grand prize draw always attracts interest, as well as the delicious mince pies donated by Cafe 19, hot mulled wine, the community singing events on both days and the chance to see so many beautifully decorated trees by our sponsors.

We aim to be back for a fourth year in a row on 12 & 13 December 2026 so if you'd like a tree this year, get in touch with us and we'll save you a place. There was increased demand, and poor Dogs of Duxford had to give up theirs in favour of the font (!), but it's possible we may extend to some outdoor trees next time.

The newest addition was well supported by the village's Come & Sing group whose voices, along with others, were raised in a Christmas karaoke singalong to popular seasonal hits. Did you come? What did you think?

Look out soon for information on a whole range of spring & summer events, autumn talks and Christmas trees in 2026.

We are delighted to share that, after 4 years of fundraising we are now Registered Charity No.1216330, formed to preserve, protect and improve Duxford's two magnificent 12th century churches. We have a lot to do but are confident we can make a difference.

Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to where we have come from, who we are, and our fundraising plans for 2026 as well as how you can visit and support our efforts.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of our events we would be delighted to hear from you at any time. Just drop us an email to [email protected] and we'll get straight back to you.
