Community sentences: myths vs facts — and what we can learn from other countries.

To have fewer victims, safer communities, and fewer lives stuck in repeat, the obvious question needs to be asked: What else are other countries doing differently, and what can we learn from them?

We’ve got something to celebrate.

Our brilliant colleague Ian jumped from 10,000ft to raise money and awareness for Rebooted - supporting children and families affected by imprisonment with access to laptops and learning.
It takes serious courage (and a lot of heart) to do something like this. We’re so proud - thank you, Ian.
If you can, please share this post to help spread the word. And if your workplace has laptops they no longer need, we’d love to put them to good use.

"We’re expanding what comes “in the box”.

Our laptops ship with learning materials to help learners develop practical skills for life beyond custody; work readiness, literacy, digital confidence and social skills.

It’s about making it easier to start learning immediately, and to keep progressing over time so that we give prison leavers the best start when back in their community.
Ready to learn?

We’re doing something slightly unhinged for a very sensible cause: a charity skydive.
On 30th July, Ian Sparks is jumping out of a perfectly good plane to raise funds for Rebooted — helping prison leavers and families of prisoners access refurbished laptops and learning, so education and opportunity don’t stop at the prison gate.
If you can sponsor the jump (and the pre-jump nerves), we’d be hugely grateful:https://shorturl.at/L4H6B

Every donation helps us get more devices into the hands of people who need them — and it also proves that sometimes the best way to support digital inclusion is… to go analogue and fall through the sky.
Thank you for backing Rebooted (and Ian’s parachute).

In 2018, job hunting could be emailing a CV or walking in.
In 2026, it’s portals, uploads, screening questions, and sometimes video interviews.
Work hasn’t changed. Applying for it has.

The world doesn’t stand still.
If someone is away for 3 years or 10 they don’t come back to the same everyday life.
In 2018, you could often sort things out in person.
In 2026, so much of life starts with a login: housing, work, healthcare, learning — even staying connected to family.

Rebooted helps people coming home catch up with the world as it is now: digital skills, secure devices, and access to learning so they can rebuild.

If you believe a fresh start should come with the tools to navigate modern life, please like this post and share with like minded colleagues.
And, if you have retired laptops that need a new home, please consider supporting our work by contacting us at [email protected]

Partnerships matter because they turn good intentions into practical support people can use immediately.

Today we collected 10 refurbished laptops kindly donated by Ego Technology. These will go to prison leavers, helping with learning, job applications, and staying connected with family and support networks.

We also love that this partnership aligns so closely with our mission: through their work with HMPPS, Ego Technology provides full-time employment and training within their WEEE breakdown workshops, supporting rehabilitation and skills for resettlement.
A huge thank you to Sam Denham and the team.

If your workplace is replacing laptops, please message us — donated devices can make a real difference [email protected]

There’s a lot in the news right now about antisocial behaviour and youth crime.
But here’s something we don’t say loudly enough:

many young people don’t “just go off the rails.” They’ve been living with disruption, stigma, and instability for years—and one of the biggest hidden drivers is having a parent in prison.

The government has just published a new plan on youth justice and early intervention: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cutting-youth-crime-changing-young-lives

We know that close to 200,000 children are affected by parental imprisonment—this is a hidden population, but it shouldn’t be invisible, if we don’t support these children, we risk them becoming the next headline.

If we do support them, we give them a real chance to learn, grow, and build a different future.
That’s why Rebooted provides laptops and learning access to prison leavers and families—so people aren’t locked out of education, opportunity, and connection.
If you can donate a laptop, sponsor a device, or help us reach organisations with unused tech, please message us [email protected]
