🚨 Sir Chris Hoy has hailed a 'miracle drug' in his fight against a terminal cancer diagnosis

The Olympics and Commonwealth Games icon revealed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which a year later he said had metastasised to his bones and that doctors had given him between two and four years to live. 💔

Sir Chris has been sharing his journey publicly and talked up exercise as a 'miracle drug' and he claims everyone would view it that way if it came as a tablet 😳

🗣️ "Exercise is a big part of my dealing with my cancer. There's numerous studies to show that exercise can improve the efficacy of the cancer medications. It can improve your time to relapse.

"If it was in pill form, it would be hailed as a miracle drug.

"Actually, for my diagnosis, it took a long time to find any positivity or opportunity from that really difficult situation. For me, that was saying maybe we can change attitudes to Stage 4 cancer."

We’re excited to launch our Movement Manifesto.

We know how much movement matters. It matters in promoting and supporting physical activity for those living with and beyond cancer. It also matters to us as individuals and as a team. We have created our Movement Manifesto to help inspire our team and to help support active workplaces for people impacted by cancer.

We’re delighted to see the updated UK Chief Medical Officers' physical activity guidelines which find even small amounts of physical activity benefit health. We also have a new Prime Minister who deeply believes in the power of movement. At MOVE Against Cancer we are passionate about the power of movement and we want to enable active lives while we’re at work.

We'd love to hear your feedback and any ideas you have on how we can make this even better for our MOVE team and wider community. We really hope to inspire other workplaces to join us in everyday movement. At MOVE we believe we all have a role to play in supporting people impacted by cancer to live active lives.

This Saturday 25th July, meeting at 08:45-08:50 by the blue flag.
Due to holidays we will be short of ambassadors so please do support them if you can.

5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer has been cancelled tomorrow, Saturday 27th June 2026.

I have made this decision early so if you wish to go elsewhere, you have time to plan where.

Coldham's Common Cambridge 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer is the closest event to Bug Hunters.

I will be going to Milton for my 250th run.

Next 5kYW, Saturday 25th July.

We maybe a bit light on the ground tomorrow due to holidays, but we’re still looking forward to seeing lots of you Bug Hunter Waters parkrun

The weather is looking cooler tomorrow but it’s still going to be hot and humid. Please come prepared for the conditions:

💧 Bring plenty of water
🧢 Dress appropriately for the heat
🧴 Don't forget your sun cream
🌳 Take it easy and look after yourself and others in the warmer temperatures
If you feel unwell at any time, please let one of the team know, looking after you is our first
priority.

Our blue flag will be flying high this Saturday (27th June) Bug Hunter Waters parkrun. Meet us there at 08: 50

🟦We are a free cancer support group for anyone impacted by cancer.
🟦Walk, run, cheer, volunteer and share peer
support with your local community.
🟦Join the community afterwards for refreshments Northstowe Tap & Social
🟦Everyone is welcome! People living with and beyond cancer, carers, friends and family including children, health care professionals and you can bring a dog on a short hand held lead
🟦Meet by the blue flag near the lakes at 8:50am ready for a 9am start.
We look forwards to welcoming and supporting you moving against cancer. 💙

I will also be doing my 250th parkrun. If it wasn’t parkrun and Coldham's Common Cambridge 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer I very much doubt I would be doing this. Thank you to everyone that has been there to support me
