Working in partnership with Governments and local partne

Over 2.5 billion people need at least one form of assistive technology like wheelchairs, glasses, or white canes. But only 10% of people in low-income countries have access to these vital products.

At CBM UK we know the transformative impact of access to assistive technology for people with disabilities across the world - that's why we provided 113,567 assistive devices in the last year alone.

But there's still more to do. We won't stop until everyone, everywhere has the assistive technology they need to thrive.

How would the world look if everyone had the chance to thrive?

A world free from discrimination, where unnecessary barriers are removed…

At CBM UK, we’re on a mission to make that world a reality, and stand up for a disability inclusive tomorrow.

To mark Volunteers' Week, we’re giving a huge shout out to our wonderful volunteers, Gill and Peter Godber, who recently celebrated an incredible milestone - 20 years of volunteering for CBM UK ❤️

Over the past two decades, Gill and Peter have organised and taken part in countless events across Cambridgeshire, including fun runs, church talks and garden parties, helping to raise awareness and support for our work.

They marked their 20th anniversary by hosting a special afternoon tea to celebrate World Sight Day, raising an amazing £700.

We are so grateful to all our incredible volunteers and ambassadors who generously give their time and energy to organise events and share stories about the life-changing impact of our work.

As Gill says: “CBM has always been a passion of mine, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the difference we can make together. Partnership is our strength.”

Thank you, Gill and Peter, for your dedication, passion and outstanding support over the last 20 years. You are an inspiration to us all.

When 30-year-old Safiya went into labour, she knew something was wrong.

After 24 hours of pain, fear and confusion, she finally had a c-section. But afterwards, Safiya was left leaking urine uncontrollably.

She had developed obstetric fistula - one of the most devastating childbirth injuries, caused by prolonged obstructed labour.

For many women in Nigeria, fistula means not only physical pain, but stigma and isolation. Many are rejected by their families and communities because of the constant leaking and smell caused by the injury.

But Safiya’s story did not end there.

After learning that surgery was available at our partner hospital in Sokoto, she finally got the treatment she needed.

Today, Safiya is healed. “I am really happy that I’m cured,” she told us.

Thank you to our supporters who help create a world where no woman is left behind. ❤️

Today is International Day to End Obstetric Fistula ❤️

We stand with Safiya (pictured) and two million other women and girls around the world affected by this preventable childbirth injury.

Obstetric fistula is a serious complication of prolonged labour that causes incontinence, shame and isolation. It can nearly always be prevented, but for many women and girls living in some of the world’s poorest places, access to healthcare is out of reach.

At CBM UK, we believe every woman deserves safe, accessible maternal healthcare and the chance to live with dignity.

That’s why we work alongside local partners in Nigeria to run an inclusive women’s health project that provides life-changing surgery, rehabilitation, and mental health support for affected women and girls.

Join us in raising awareness and helping to build a future where every woman can access the care she deserves.
