Following the completion of their carrier qualifications, both squadrons embarked with the UK Carrier Strike Group for Exercise STRIKE WARRIOR. Operating eight F-35B jets, this marked 809 NAS’s first deployment on a Queen Elizabeth-class carrier.

During the exercise, personnel spent several weeks building experience at sea, integrating with the ship’s company and sharpening their skills, before training intensified alongside NATO allies as the full Carrier Strike Group came together for a major two-week deployment.

It's been a busy few weeks for the Royston Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, and we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who continues to support us.

From planning and attending community events, supporting veterans, to developing new ideas for engaging with our local RAF family and wider community, there has been plenty happening behind the scenes.

Members of our committee have attended conferences, met with local people over a coffee, attended village fetes and local motorcycle shows. The Branch Secretary and Chairman attended a Heritage discussion event at the local (former) Bourn airfield, met with members of Government ......... and ate ice-cream!!!

Our volunteers continue to give their time, energy and enthusiasm to ensure the branch remains active, welcoming and relevant to those we serve. Whether attending meetings, supporting welfare activities, helping with administration, or simply being there for a chat and a brew, every contribution makes a difference.

As we look ahead to Armed Forces Day and the months beyond, we're excited about the opportunities to connect with more people, raise awareness of the support available through RAFA, and continue honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us recently. If you've been thinking about getting involved, we'd love to hear from you.

Together, we are stronger.

It’s been a busy and meaningful week for the Royston Branch RAFA.

We’ve stood in remembrance at the ANZAC Day service in Cambridge, paid our respects at a funeral in Bedford, and continued to support our community in the moments that matter most.

And we’re not slowing down just yet—this Bank Holiday Monday you’ll find us at the May Fayre in Royston, Hertfordshire. Please do come along, say hello, and show your support.

Proud to be part of a branch that shows up—through reflection, remembrance, and community spirit.

There’s something special about reconnecting with history, especially when it’s so close to home.

Recently, our RAFA Branch Secretary and Treasurer paid a visit to the Fowlmere Airfield Museum — a place that quietly holds so many powerful stories from our RAF heritage.

Walking through the museum, surrounded by artefacts, photographs, and memories of those who served, was a reminder of why organisations like RAFA exist — to honour, support, and keep alive the legacy of the Royal Air Force family.

Visits like these aren’t just about looking back; they’re about strengthening our connection to the past while continuing to support today’s RAF community.

Thank you Fowlmere Airfield Museum for having us!

Lest we forget.

It's been a while for sure, but please don't think that we're not actively working away ......

From coming together at our regular meet-ups to sharing stories, laughter, and support, it’s been a reminder of what makes this branch so special — the people. We’ve seen new faces join us, familiar ones return, and as always, that strong sense of camaraderie that runs through everything we do.

Behind the scenes, there’s been continued work to support veterans and their families, alongside planning for the months ahead. Every conversation, every event, every small act of support makes a difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who has shown up, helped out, or simply taken the time to connect. You are what keeps this community thriving.

This week our Secretary, Tony, and Public Relations Officer, Amy, came together for a coffee and to plan for the coming weeks and months. Watch this space for updates and news but to kick things off, Tony and some of our Branch members will be popping along to the Fowlmere Airfield Museum this Sunday - come and join us! We'd love to see you!

A little later than planned, but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to reflect on what a busy year 2025 was for the Royston Branch RAFA.

In 2025, we continued our commitment to supporting the RAF family — serving, veteran, and their loved ones—through friendship, welfare, and remembrance.

From impromptu coffee meetings to fundraising events and quiet acts of support behind the scenes, our branch has remained a place where no one stands alone.

We’ve remembered those who served, strengthened our local connections, and welcomed new members into our RAF family. Every conversation, donation, and hour volunteered has made a real difference.

Thank you to our members, volunteers, and supporters for your dedication and camaraderie. Here’s to carrying that spirit forward into the year ahead—together.
