Jimmy's Cambridge Providing accommodation for the homeless and vulnerably housed of Cambridge

21/08/2026

How do you build financial confidence without making support feel rigid? 🤔

We're so proud to introduce REFWEP - our brand new initiative helping our residents build financial literacy and confidence, at their own pace.📈

It's taken 18 months to get here, a real team effort between Tim and Jenny from our Finance team, and Bea from Services - to build something that meets and accepts our residents exactly where they are, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.

Tim sat down with us to explain what REFWEP is all about and why it matters so much.🎥

Support looks different for everyone. For us, it means giving residents the tools to feel confident managing their own money, long after they've moved on from Jimmy's.💜

The Jimmy's team goes bowling...what could go wrong?🎳

We had gutter balls, competitive spirit and some questionable bowling techniques - but it was a fun evening had by all!💜

6 out of the 10 people on Street Outreach's list of entrenched rough sleepers are being housed and supported at our East Road assessment centre. This is a huge win, and we want to celebrate it loudly.📢

Entrenched is the term used for people who've been rough sleeping for a long time, often many years, and are dealing with really tough challenges all at once; like mental health struggles, addiction, trauma, and repeated homelessness. Many have a major distrust for the system, which makes it even harder to reach them and offer help.🙁

This work is not only important - it's life saving. Long-term rough sleepers face a much higher risk of dying young. By meeting and accepting people where they are with no judgement, we give them a real chance to rebuild their lives and move towards independence.

A huge thank you to everyone at Street Outreach Cambridge for partnering with us. Together, we're working towards ending homelessness in Cambridge.💜

We asked our team one simple question: "In 1 word - how would you describe the people we support?"💬

The word cloud speaks for itself: our residents are resilient, funny, talented, creative, hopeful to name just a few!

This is how we see our residents - not as a stereotype or a statistic, but as people who bring a lot to the table, and we want everyone to see our residents the way we do - for who they truly are.💜

When our East Road team leader Hetty wanted to spruce up the communal space, she brought residents in through our coproduction approach and they got fully involved - grabbing a paintbrush and giving the space the glow-up it deserved.✨

This is true coproduction in action: not doing things for our residents, but with them. Handing someone a paintbrush and saying "this space is yours too" - it's a small but powerful reminder that this is home.🏠🎨

We even had some live music adding to the vibes and topping off a lovely afternoon.💜

We asked our team what a home means to them, and the same themes kept coming up: feeling safe, accepted and loved - a place where you can be yourself and spend quality time with your loved ones.💜

A home is more than just 4 walls and a roof, it's a feeling.🏠

What is Coproduction? Our masterclass this month was centred around this topic - what it is, how we do it, and why it's vital to our organisation.

Coproduction is when professionals and service users collaborate as equal partners to design and shape the delivery of the service. It starts with genuinely understanding what the people using our service want and need, and keeps evolving from there.

For Jimmy's, we want our residents to be involved in the decision making process across all levels of Jimmy's, from how we support🫶, who we hire🤝, how our spaces look🏡 and the food we cook.🍴

💬Our Coproduction co-ordinator Alice said that "It means so much because I've experienced what it feels like to have little control over decisions that affect your life. That's why I believe that when we truly value people's voices and work alongside them as equals, we create services that are more compassionate, more effective and ultimately lead to better outcomes."

At Jimmy's, our residents are at the heart of what we do, because a service that's shaped by the people it's for is a service that actually works. That's how we go from Street Floor to Front Door.💜

Last week the team took part in training on Psychologically Informed Environments, apply it effectively so we can tailor our support to suit everyone's needs.

At Jimmy's, we choose to meet people where they are and measure progress in whatever form that takes, because it isn't always measured by stats and figures - sometimes it's the smaller, daily wins that can be overlooked:

💬A genuine and open conversation with a resident who may have been previously guarded.
🧽🧹Someone taking pride in keeping our communal spaces clean and tidy.
🪴Team members using reflective practice techniques to develop and grow.

This training taught us that progress looks different for everyone, and we will continue to focus on creating the space and environment for people to grow and take those necessary steps forward.💜

Join us in giving a big Jimmy's welcome to Amaya! 👋

Amaya has joined our team as Corporate & Communities Fundraiser, helping us raise the funds that support people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge on their journeys from Street Floor to Front Door.

We asked her why she wanted to join us:💬

"I'm so happy to be a part of the team at Jimmy's. I've viewed Jimmy's for a long time as a charity that provides effective support to people facing homelessness, makes a lasting impact on people's lives, and has a strong presence in the local community. I'm really excited to build on this in my role and develop meaningful, lasting relationships with our supporters."

We are so happy to have her on our team!💜

And if you or someone you know is looking for their next role and is interested in being part of the Jimmy's team too, we're hiring for the below roles and we'd love for you to apply! 👇
