Today’s walk to Ely was absolutely lovely and a great way to round off an entire year of fantastic events! Thank you so much to our Events Manager Tereza Maxerová for running this and all our events this year, and thanks also to everyone who attended any of our events – I’ve really enjoyed my year on the committee and you are part of what has made our events so great!

This was the last event for the 2024-25 academic year but stay tuned as we will soon be advertising for a new committee for the 2025-26 academic year, so it will be exciting to see what events they come up with! Hi everyone,

Catz Nature Society invites you to join us on Friday 20th June (note new date!) for our highlight of the year: a walk to Ely! It will be a lovely walk through 18 miles of beautiful countryside, including the option of a pub lunch, and we are also hoping to reach Ely in time to look inside the Cathedral and attend the Evensong service. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be from Catz 😊 Advance booking is not required, but if you’re thinking of coming, please read the following important information:

• The walk is on Friday 20th June (note new date!). We will meet at Catz Main Site Plodge at 9AM.
• The walk is 18 miles, and some paths may be muddy. Please wear suitable footwear.
• We will stop for lunch at the ‘Five Miles From Anywhere’ pub in Upware.
• Unfortunately, our budget has already expired so we can’t subsidise lunch. Please either buy your own lunch from the pub or bring your own packed lunch.
• The pub’s menu is here: https://www.fivemilesinn.com/menu
• If you have a dietary requirement, it might be safer to bring your own packed lunch.
• We will return to Cambridge by train and will arrive back at Catz no later than 10PM.
• Unfortunately, our budget has already expired so you will need to buy your own train ticket. We will be able to buy tickets at Ely train station just before we board.
• Please keep an eye on your emails / our social media pages right up to 9AM on Friday in case there are any last-minute changes. If you don’t hear from me again, the walk is going ahead as planned.

We’re looking forward to hopefully seeing you there!

Wow! What an amazing trip we had with the Catz Allotment Society to the Catz allotments this afternoon! First, we were treated to a guided tour of the allotments, then the Catz Allotment Society showed us how to plant fruit and veg and let us have a go! Thanks to the Catz Allotment Society for proposing and running this event, it was really fun and I would definitely like to do this again soon!

After leaving the allotments, Tereza and I decided to take a quick detour via Grantchester Meadows as it was so nearby and so beautiful. I'm also including some photos of that to hopefully whet your appetite for our next event - on Saturday 10th May, we are planning an Evening Nature Walk through Sheep's Green and Paradise Local Nature Reserve to Grantchester Meadows, where we will watch the sunset and then look for bats, plus Tereza will do some insect demonstrations. After that, we are planning a walk to Ely on Saturday 21st June. To ensure you don’t miss out, click this link to join our mailing list: https://lists.cam.ac.uk/sympa/subscribe/soc-scns Everyone is welcome, you don’t have to be from Catz 😊

And finally, if you’re from Catz and couldn't make it today, don't panic - the Catz Allotment Society is planning to start running open days like this on a regular basis. To stay informed, make sure to follow their Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/catz.allotmentsociety
