We are delighted to confirm that, for the next stage of the Great Shelford Rec masterplan (improving the basketball area and creating more opportunities for fitness training), Great Shelford Parish Council has been awarded £30,000 by the Thalia WB Community fund.
FAST AND FURIOUS
The current basketball hoop has minimal playability, so enlarging the playing surface to a half-sized court, adding lines and replacing the hoop will transform it into a 3×3 basketball court. 1 hoop, 2 teams of 3 = a hugely exciting Olympic sport.
STRENGTH AND BALANCE
Seven timber fitness items, including pull-up bars, balance beams and overhead ladders will be dotted along the western edge of the rec, creating an active route of strength and balance training, from 'carousel corner' to the basketball area. Continuing our inclusive ethos, the equipment has been chosen for its flexibility allowing people of different ages and abilities to use them in different ways.
