Eddie's Artworks Fenland have been working on a Sewing Bee challenge!

Every person we support designed a T-shirt, learning new techniques like Applique & reverse Applique. We used hand embroidery techniques as well as equipment like sewing machines and irons. Some of our lovely bunch also made a few extra items to take home.

Eddie's Artworks Fenland had a Summer Disco & BBQ last night, braving the hottest day (who knew😅) with a fabulous turn out!

Free ice lollies and squash to keep everyone cool plus bubble fun with the fans.

We are well supported by Wisbech Phab club who come to our events.

A BIG thank you to Team Eddie's Alan, Pauline & Katrina - without their support these events couldn't happen.

🎙️ Why not have a listen to us on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire this morning during the Foodie Thursday feature?

We had such a wonderful time visiting the studio. The team at the BBC were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home… even if we did arrive with two boxes of freshly baked scones and all the trimmings! 😄

A huge thank you to everyone at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire for giving us the opportunity to share the story of Cafe Eddie’s and the fantastic work our co-workers with learning disabilities do every day.

What does it mean to be heard?

In our last post of this week we wanted to talk about how people with learning disabilities might be non-verbal or non-speaking - but that doesn't mean they don't have anything to say!

People with learning disabilities may communicate in lots of different ways, including writing, gestures, use of only certain words/phrases, and using Makaton. Makaton is a simple communication method based on British Sign Language that was developed for very young children, and people with learning disabilities or other communication needs.

This year our wonderful theatre group, SPLAT, performed at Cambridge Pride, incorporating Makaton into their performance. Take a look!

How do people see me? How do I see myself?

To explore this year's theme, we have been running a competition around those questions. We asked the lovely people we support and our wonderful support staff to decorate a template with what makes them who they are.

We received so many fantastic submissions that creatively demonstrated everyone's identity and showcased what they love, and what they bring to other people's lives. It was hard to pick a winner! Take a look at all of the submissions, including our winner and a few special mentions for our runners-up.

Our lucky winner will be receiving a little treat hamper from our very own Café Eddie's - congratulations Steven!
