Eddie's

Eddie's We are a local charity. We support children, young people and adults with learning disabilities in lots of different ways. Our name is new but we're not.

We've been supporting people with learning disabilities in Cambridgeshire for over ten years. We used to be part of Cambridgeshire Mencap, which is why you'll sometimes see that name mentioned on our website. Eddie's provides a wide range of services for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, and their families and carers. We offer practical support and lots of exciting oppo

rtunities. Our community-based activities and personalised support helps people with learning disabilities to do the things they enjoy, make new friends, learn new skills and lead more independent lives.

On Saturday 9th of May 2026, Lisa Jenns, our wonderful Lead Arts Coordinator from Eddie's Artworks Fenland and Evie Binns, our fantastic leader of Eddie's Peer Mentorship are doing the Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike Marathon for Macmillan.

They both signed up at Christmas and training started straight away in the new year! Both Lisa and Evie, along with many others, have had members of their family pass away due to Cancer & Lisa is caring for her mum as she is going through treatment now.

If you can sponsor them to show your support, they would welcome any kind contributions! Please see links below for their fundraising pages.

What comes to mind when you hear the term 'Neurodiversity' or 'Neurodivergence'? Did you know there are many types of neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is an initiative that aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported across different settings such as education and workplaces. Here we highlight a number of themes that are paramount when it comes to steps forward for neurodiversity.

Challenging Stereotypes: Emphasising the importance of recognising and valuing the strengths and contributions of neurodivergent individuals in various settings.

Inclusivity and Equality: Promoting inclusive environments that celebrate differences and support neurodivergent individuals, ensuring they feel valued and understood.

Reasonable adjustments: Making even small changes to help neurodivergent individuals to thrive in different environments. Are reasonable adjustments one size fits all? No! Ask people what they need; listen to what they have to say, and do.

Celebrating Diverse Minds: Acknowledging the unique perspectives and talents that neurodivergent individuals bring to society, fostering a culture of acceptance and respect. Did you know a number of celebrities have openly shared their experience of neurodivergence?

Action Beyond Awareness: Focusing on actionable steps to improve support systems and ensure consistent, predictable, and aligned support for neurodivergent individuals.

Educating and Empowering: Providing resources and support for neurodivergent individuals and their families to help them navigate challenges and thrive in their communities.

Did you know Eddie's work closely with a number of organisations and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB to provide Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism for health and social care? Or that we deliver a Peer Mentorship in schools around the area to help children and young people with diverse needs and abilities to build voice, confidence, resilience and self-advocacy skills?

Here's a little something from Jo about this event:
"The Half Marathon is a great opportunity to kick start me back into exercise and raise money to support a fantastic charity.

My role as Positive Behaviour Support Coach is to help support those struggling with challenging behaviours to have an improved quality of life."

Wishing them all the best for Sunday!

And don't forget - this weekend our new(ish) Café, Café Eddie's Eddie's is having a special opening on Sunday for a Big Breakfast Brunch! Whether you run, support, or just love a great brunch, we hope to see you there.
