Suggestions for responses to draft local plan consultation

Draft Local Plan Consultation The draft Local Plan is out for public consultation from 1st December 2025 to 31 January 2026. This is definitely not the best time of year for a consultation but the Save Honey Hill team hopes residents will find some time before the end of January to comment on it. We need to show that development at North East Cambridge, which relies on the sewage works moving to Honey Hill, should not be included in the Greater Cambridge Local Plan....

Following the withdrawal of Government funding for the relocation of the Cambridge Wastewater Treatment Works, fundamental questions remain about how wastewater treatment will now be provided for Waterbeach New Town - and whether it is still appropriate to progress a tunnel or pipeline from Waterbeach to Milton, via Honey Hill. A pipeline which requires pumping under the River Cam, travelling south for two miles and pumping back under the river to the Milton works....

Save Honey Hill will continue to hold all parties involved to account and advocate for the protection of the Green Belt and the future of Honey Hill.

Serious questions have been raised regarding Anglian Water’s plans to build a pipeline which will pump wastewater upstream from Waterbeach New Town, routed east under the river and then again west …

This week’s Cambridge Independent, out from today, reports how £80m was spent on plans to move the Cambridge sewage works into the Green Belt and develop the existing site with housing before the plans were abandoned.
We reveal how Anglian Water will now object to all planning applications that would need to connect to the existing network.
Look out for a fabulous spread of pictures from the Duxford Soapbox Derby and another from Northstowe Running Festival, along with images of Grantchester stars returning to film the final series.
We also have images from the Ancient Oak Fayre, the Botanic Garden, Histon Beer Festival, the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair at Audley End House and Gardens and the new Summer at the Beach exhibition.
We report on the controversial plans for Christ’s College’s library, the mixed views over grants made to Russian culture organisations to help Ukrainians and on calls to report those trapping signal crayfish at Byron’s Pool without a licence.
There’s funding for the Catholic church to stop masonry falling from it and the latest on the lock repairs, and we report how masked raiders targeted two Post Offices and a Co-op in one weekend.
There’s an interview with Cambridge classicist Mary Beard, we hear from Pippa Heylings MP, district council leader Cllr Bridget Smith and city councillor Anthony Martinelli writes for us on what he calls the deepening crisis in the management of city council housing. There’s our latest Kerry on Cambridge column plus our fitness and wellbeing expert Ollie Thompson describes some simple ways to undo years of slouching.
In Business, we look at the Cambridge 2030 school partnership, a year after it won the Award for Collaboration at the Cambridge Independent Business Awards, plus we feature the $100m fundraising of Cambridge Aerospace and $44m funding for Cyted Health.
In Sport, there’s the latest on Shelford Rugby Club, a European win for Melbourn squash player Kate Bradshaw, Burwell & Exning competing for the title in the cricket plus, of course, all the latest from Cambridge United Football Club, Cambridge City Football Club and Histon F.C..
