We are Burwell Bash, a folk music summer school set in the heart of rural Cambridgeshire, the village of Burwell. For the past 35 years, we have offered a mix of instrument, ensemble and folk orchestra classes; performance opportunities; intimate concerts; song and dance workshops; good food; and roaring sessions, to teens and adults, all on one site. For 5 days, we allow for easy access and complete immersion into an integrated musical collective.

We offer unique opportunity to learn from Brian Finnegan and Katherine Mann (flute and whistle), Ed Boyd (guitar), Tola Custy and Jock Tyldesley (Fiddle), Hazel Askew (D/G Melodeon) and Ernesto Calderon (ensemble and composition).

This year for Burwell Bash 2026 we are still seeking participants for our fiddle and melodeon classes.

We were all very sad to hear of the passing of Dave Shepherd, the Essex-based fiddler best known for his long-time membership of Blowzabella. His love for and extensive knowledge of English and European dance and dance music have been a constant inspiration to many for more than fifty years. Dave wrote many beautiful tunes and has been sharing the fruits of his research into English fiddle music and dance with workshops across the country. He taught at the Trust’s “More than Melodeons” day in 2022 and was to lead a workshop on East Anglian social dance with Anna Pack at Traditional Music Day in September this year. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his wife Maria and his family and friends.
