TWS presents Cambridge students with the opportunity to get involved in some of the most exciting work that happens on the Cambridge Campus. TWS is not a traditional students’ society but a fully operating think tank that enables students to accomplish significant milestones.

The opening of the committee for applications presents an exciting opportunity for you to get involved with:
Designing and drafting the themes of policy papers, some of which have been commissioned by MPs and debated in the European Parliament such as TWS’ Report on Brexit and others which have been produced in collaboration with other organisations such as the Oxford Diplomatic Dispatch and the Telos Press

Hosting our Podcast which has hosted the likes of Lord Wilson of Dinton, Professor Kets De Vries, and Professor Berman

Invite highly admired speakers for events and our annual Conference, having previously hosted in Cambridge, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, No10 Downing Street’s Chief of Staff among many others and organised insightful Drinks Reception at the House of Lords with some of the leaders of the British Society

We encourage applications for a diversity of roles (2-3), as given high competition for some positions, rejection does not necessarily mean incompatibility with the committee.

Today, I am joined by Tim Jones, Policy Director at Debt Justice, a UK charity working to end poverty caused by unjust debt through education, research and campaigning. Tim has worked for Debt Justice for 12 years and previously worked for Global Justice Now for 8 years, campaigning on debt, trade agreements and climate change. Tim’s research on international debt has been widely cited in media including the Financial Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian, Bloomberg, Reuters and BBC. He has spoken on panels at the IMF, Paris Club and UN. We are here today to discuss both the social and global dimension of debt policy in the UK.

Is our concern for national debt fundamentally mistaken? Today, I am joined by Mark Blyth, the William R. Rhodes Professor of International Economics and Professor of International and Public Affairs at Brown University. Mark is known for his scholarship on economic ideas, having contributed to an “ideational turn” in International Policy Economy by offering sociologically informed approaches to markets and politics. He is an ardent critic of austerity and author of Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea, published in 2013. We are here today to discuss austerity in the UK with a focus on its historical and ideological roots.

How can we lead a life driven by purpose? Today, Rafa is joined by Manfred F.R. Kets de Vries. Manfred is a globally renowned management scholar, psychoanalyst, consultant, and professor of leadership development and organizational change at INSEAD. His research focuses on leadership and the dynamics of individual and organizational change, exploring the interface between management theory, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, evolutionary psychology, and executive coaching. He created a group coaching intervention method which is used in business schools and consulting firms all over the world. He has written more than 50 books, 400 articles and book chapters on leadership, and organizational and personal change.

Manfred has also won awards for his work in the leadership field, including the Harry and Miriam Levinson Award from the American Psychological Association in 2001. In 2010, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Management.
