For Damla, a marketing internship at Form the Future meant greater confidence, new skills and a clearer idea of where she wants her career to go. 📈

After recently graduating from Leeds Beckett University with a degree in Marketing and Advertising Management, the internship gave her the opportunity to put her knowledge into practice within a real working environment.

“I’ve gained more confidence.”

From contributing her ideas in team meetings to developing her copywriting, content creation and video editing skills, Damla was given the opportunity to take ownership of real work and see the impact of her contribution.

But most importantly, the experience helped Damla confirm that marketing is where she wants to build her career.

For young people starting out, being given the opportunity to contribute, learn and experience a workplace first-hand can make a real difference to what comes next.

Damla’s placement was made possible through the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority Youth Internship Programme, helping more young people gain meaningful workplace experience and take their first steps into employment.

“It’s been electric.” ⚡

What can a week of work experience actually give a young person?

Ryan and Diego spent a week of their summer holidays at Pizza Pilgrims, getting stuck into everything from making pizzas in the kitchen to working with the front-of-house team and learning how a busy restaurant operates.

Along the way, they had the chance to build practical workplace skills, grow in confidence, work with new people and experience first-hand what a career in hospitality could look like.

Opportunities like this can help young people understand what they enjoy, what they’re good at and what they might want from their future, things that can be difficult to discover from the classroom alone.

"Since getting into the working world, I've made connections with all different types of people."

Like many young people, George wasn't sure what he wanted to do after leaving school. It wasn't until he met Neil, one of our Ambassadors, at a school careers event that he discovered a career path he hadn't previously considered.

That one conversation led to work experience and, later, an apprenticeship with Cooper Barnes Ltd, where George is now developing new skills, building his confidence and working in a role he's genuinely excited about.

If your young person is still figuring out their next steps, George's story is a reminder that they don't need to have everything planned out. Sometimes, the right conversation at the right time can open the door to opportunities they never knew existed.

"Coming into the internship, I wasn't really sure what to expect."

Starting in a new workplace for the first time can feel daunting, but for the group of students joining Bango, those nerves quickly turned into confidence thanks to the warm welcome and support they received.

Over two weeks, they worked on real projects, learnt from experienced professionals, explored different career paths and built lasting connections with both their mentors and each other. More than just an insight into the world of work, the internship helped them develop the confidence and skills to take their next steps.

A huge thank you to everyone at Bango for creating an environment where these young people could learn, grow and thrive. The experience, friendships and confidence they've gained will stay with them long after the internship has ended.
