What an incredible night! A huge thank you to Matthew Caws for not only performing for us but also for sharing his songwriting process. He guided us through a creative exercise that showed how anyone can start writing. We had a blast coming up with our own lyrics to an instrumental track, fueled by a bit of belief and confidence. For those who joined us, if you’d like to receive the track Matthew created, so you can keep writing for fun, just DM us! He’d be more than happy to send it your way.

Our next Something in Common Social is on Thursday, 20 March, from 7pm at Fort St George.

This month we’re excited to welcome Cambridge-based American musician Matthew Caws. Matthew has been the singer, guitarist and songwriter for indie-rock group Nada Surf since their formation in NYC in 1993. Together they’ve released nine studio albums, including the recent Moon Mirror, which Rolling Stone named as one of the 50 Best Indie Rock Albums of 2024.

Fresh off a European tour, Matthew will be playing a few songs, discussing the art of songwriting, and offering a glimpse into some of his own writing techniques.

See you there!
