The band is back together! This week we're playing pieces which all premiered in 1765, including the 8 year old Mozart's first symphony, Haydn's 39th, and Telemann's dramatic cantata Ino, in a year of volcanic creative change.

Grammy Award-winning soprano Amanda Forsythe speaks to Bachtrack about Telemann's dramatic cantata, Ino, ahead of concerts this month:

"it isn’t done very often, and it’s fantastic! It’s hard to program because it’s such a tour de force for the singer, and the orchestra is quite large – horns, flutes, the whole shebang. It’s a whole opera crammed into 35 exciting minutes."

Capturing the vogue for Sturm and Drang, Telemann’s dramatic cantata Ino was one of the composer’s last works in a prolific career. Soprano Amanda Forsythe talks about returning to the UK to sing this rare and exciting work with the Academy of Ancient Music.

Our Estonian debut! Here we are in rehearsal and concert with the wonderful (Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir) and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, performing works by JS Bach and Arvo Pärt as part of Arvo Pärt Days 2026.

The concert is now available to stream online following live broadcast on Estonian Classic Radio.

Calling aspiring baroque string players! An exciting opportunity has just opened up via our friends at The Music Summer School and Festival in Gresham.

A limited number of fully funded places are now available on the Baroque Orchestra Course (1–8 August 2026), for one violinist, and two viola players to join them on a 100% scholarship, with accommodation and catering included.

First performed on this day, 17 July, in 1717, here's Suite No.2 in D major, Alla Hornpipe, from Handel's Water Music.

Originally performed in a concert on the Thames for King George I by a floating orchestra alongside the Royal Barge, it's performed on here on period instruments by Academy of Ancient Music.
