Thank you all for the incredible support. As a team and as a community of professionals, we continue to demonstrate what is possible when collaboration, commitment, and purpose come together.

This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our nursing colleagues in Sierra Leone and the strength of the partnerships that make this work sustainable. I am especially proud of Augusta for representing TOSHPA with excellence and sharing our collective journey on such a respected platform.

Grateful to every nurse, midwife, partner, and supporter who continues to champion this initiative. Together, we are advancing nurse‑led innovation and strengthening healthcare delivery across our region.

TOSHPA was honoured to participate in the inaugural Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation West Africa Region Conference, hosted by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria (April 21–23, 2026).

Our abstract, “Supporting Nurses and Midwives to Establish a Nurse-Led Diabetes Clinic at Bo Government Hospital, Sierra Leone,” was accepted for both oral and poster presentations. This work highlights our flagship collaboration with Sierra Leonean nurses to establish a fully functional, nurse-led diabetes clinic at Bo Government Hospital, made possible by a generous donation from the Burdett Trust for Nursing, UK.

We were proudly represented by Registered Nurse Augusta Sesay, one of the clinic’s pioneering nurses, who shared our experience and impact with colleagues across the region.

We are delighted to share our conference poster and a few moments captured during the event.

TOSHPA is supporting Connaught Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The Organisation of Sierra Leonean Healthcare Professionals Abroad, a UK-based registered charity, has been supporting the efforts of the Sierra Leone Government to improve healthcare services in the country.

In December 2021, through a ‘ward adoption’ strategy, TOSHPA went into partnership with the Hospital Management Team, undertook a significant project, refurbishing and re-equipping Ward 6 at the country’s main referral hospital – Connaught Hospital. Due to various constraints, Ward 6 had fallen into disrepair and needed to be made into a safe hospital space for both patients and staff. TOSHPA stepped in, raising the required funds and supervising the work to completion in the agreed time.

In January 2022, the work was completed on time, and our joyous Diaspora Office, Elizabeth Faley (see photo), handed Ward 6 to Dr Demby, the Minister of Health, at a well-attended ceremony.

Our work with Ward 6 continues with the provision of clinical equipment, other materials, and mentorship to empower the staff to care for the patients. This week, TOSHPA Deputy Diaspora Officer, Mary Swarray (see photo), visited Ward 6, delivered Blood Pressure and glucose monitors to the ward, and thanked colleagues, advising them of the importance to maintain standards on the ward and improving outcomes for patients.

TOSHPA thanks members and all our supporters for empowering us to improve services at Connaught Hospital.
