FOND FAREWELL

Today we said goodbye 👋 to John Mochan. We are so sad to see him go as he has given so much to us. As he has said in his card he first came here 13 years ago after his diagnosis. He told us the centre made him feel safe, and he felt happy as soon as he arrived here. He loved the fact it was away from the hospital and that there is plenty of space to chat, relax and enjoy all the centre has to offer.

John told us how he, and our wonderful trustee Janet Janet Hickman , set up the monthly prostrate group. It is a thriving group and has been left in very capable hands. John remarked how hard it is for men to admit they want support and to show their vulnerable side. This group helps everyone feel comfortable, to open up and share concerns.

We wish John lots of luck as he and his wife move to Eastbourne. We’ll miss you! 🥰

is doing another gruelling challenge:
“Myself and cycle partner/friend Kenny Byrne are taking part in the Tour de 4 2026, the cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy following his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. It brings together people living with Stage 4 cancer, alongside friends, families and supporters, to ride side by side and raise vital funds.

The event is about showing that a diagnosis does not define a person, and highlighting what life with Stage 4 cancer can look like: strength, resilience and determination.

All funds raised will go to our chosen charity The Cambridge Cancer Help Centre https://www.cambridgecancerhelp.org where support is given to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis including close friends and family.”

New Emotional Support Therapist - available on Wednesday's at the Centre from 12th August.

Ann Haworth is a qualified counsellor and psychodynamic analytical psychotherapist with over 35 years counselling experience in different agencies, the NHS, GP practice, Relate and a private practice.

Ann says .... "CANCER not only effects physical health but also your emotional health and well-being. How you experience and cope with all the effects can be frightening and overwhelming. It is common to try and avoid or ignore thoughts and feelings that can be difficult and unsettling. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, which in turn can affect other relationships such as the family or work colleagues.

What I offer is a safe, confidential space to talk over what is affecting you regarding your cancer diagnosis.

I will guide and support you through ‘TALKING THERAPY’ to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions.

This will be a personal, private confidential space for you to find ways to deal with and help resolve any emotional issues."

🙏 to Sawston Fun Run & Walk

We had a brilliant evening celebrating the 40th Sawston Fun Run & Walk, hosted by the Sawston Cricket Club.

We are so grateful to the organisers and sponsors as we were presented a cheque to help fund our work at the centre. It was great to chat to other charities and those involved in making the event happen. CARERS CORNER First Monday in the Month

Carer’s corner meets monthly at the Centre Cambridge Cancer Help Centre , Shelford, by Scotsdales Garden Centre , and is led by an experienced volunteer/carer. We also have a therapist who attends to offer treatments to carers.

We know how tough it is for family and friends watching a loved one suffer with cancer. Often they are under extreme stress and are working hard to be strong and supportive. We feel it’s very important to give carers a space to share and to receive advice and support.

REFLEXOLOGY 💚

🤩 has been volunteering at the Cambridge Cancer Help Centre for over 15 years. Emma’s sessions are always popular as she brings so much warm energy, care and huge amounts of experience to the centre. We are so lucky to have her as part of our therapist team, she has helped guide and listen to so many of the members but also her fellow therapists, and other volunteers.

To top it off she has taken part in our cycle 🚲ride two years in a row and raised a lot of money.
