Cambridge Cancer Help Centre We offer support to local families living with Cancer

Call for support on 01223 840 105 We offer free support to local families facing a Cancer diagnosis.

In our community there are excellent hospitals, doctors and nurses and we work to maintain links with the local services that provide diagnosis, treatment and hospice care. However, there are often long periods between visits to the clinic, diagnosis and treatment. We aim to fill those gaps during which time many feel anxious, depressed and alone, by providing understanding and a listening ear, pu

tting people in touch with others in a similar situation and by providing complementary therapies, counselling, self-help groups, relaxation sessions and much more. We do not provide medical advice or treatment. At the Centre, people can speak openly in a warm and friendly environment. Indeed, the sense of a “safe haven”, psychological encouragement, friendship and mutual support – being able to give as well as receive – are seen as some of the most valuable benefits the Centre has to offer. The Centre is currently open Monday to Wednesday 10am to 4pm. If you would like to know more, please see our website https://cambridgecancerhelp.org/ or contact us on 01223 840105 or email [email protected].

🙏 - Social Action Week 💟

We were delighted to receive this lovely email recently:

Dear Julie

We are so happy to share that we raised £406 for your amazing charity throughout social action week at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

We had a great time raising money and interacting with our community to raise awareness. All of us feel that we learnt a lot through this experience and are so happy our hard work is going to a great cause.

MOVING FORWARD

regularly run ‘Moving Forward Courses’ . They expertly support those with breast cancer and provide a safe place to share concerns whilst guiding them ‘forward’. A very good course that is grounding and run by a very good team.

The next one is on 10th June and there will be more to come. Contact them directly or ring our centre to find out more.

We have other support sessions at the centre and we have attached the June calendar for you to see.

EMOTIONAL GOODBYE

🥰 Wonderful Chrissy Eason has been offering emotional support to our members for over eight years now. She has listened and guided so many through very difficult times, both those with cancer and their families and friends.

We are sad that Chrissy is now moving away. She brought so much joy and huge experience to the centre. Having trained as a nurse she then became a social worker and finally a councillor. We were lucky to have such an empathetic and knowledgeable therapist volunteer at the centre.

Some of the team had a final dinner out with her. We wish her well and lots of luck for the next stage of her life. We’ll miss you! 🥰

TEAM EFFORT 🤩

Every event relies on a large team of volunteers. One of the groups that often get over looked, and rarely mentioned, are the hard working trustees. Every single trustee at the centre is hands-on, they get involved in the running of the centre, raising funds and helping with each event.

We’d like to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE thank you for all you do, without you all the centre would not be where it is today.

🙏

FABULOUS REVIEW!

We were very grateful to Sarah for stopping post cycling 🚴‍♂️ 40 miles to chat to us. Wonderful to hear about how much our centre means to her.

Sarah brilliantly shared that every penny we have to raise to run the centre we do so via events, activities at the centre or applying to trusts and foundations.

💥 SUCCESSFUL CYCLE RIDE EVENT 🙌

Yesterday was total joy at our centre for the second Cambridge Cancer Help Cycle ride. It was a huge success, no accidents and no complaints! Just pure positivity.

We were delighted as this year we had 151 riders, compared to 100 last year. There were 35 mighty volunteers who helped organise and set up the event - it’s no mean feat sorting the route, safety admin, cyclist admin, signage, sponsorship, sourcing food & goodies bags, coordinating the team and and on the day the core team were there from 6am!

Two coffee stops, one at Everton and one at Hinxworth. Three routes: 20 people did 20 miles, 55 people did 40 miles and the most popular, 85 did 60 miles. For many it was a very real challenge doing it in basic cycle clothing, trainers and heavy bikes!

From these photos you can get an initial 😃 feel for the event - we have many more, and some lovely videos. We will share them over the next few weeks.
