POT OF THE MONTH.

Second runner up – Alex

Alex’s teapot

The judges absolutely loved the ingenuity and character of this piece. It feels lovely to hold, and the peeled-back sections of raw clay create a stunning contrast with the rich green glossy glaze within. It is a little gem of a teapot, full of imagination and charm, and the judges are excited to see the new creative worlds Alex continues to bring to life.

Congratulations Alex 🎉

First runner up

Karen’s vase

Chosen for its elegant, generous form and beautifully considered glaze, which breaks to green at the rim. A piece that feels as good in the hand as it looks.

POT OF THE MONTH

Our April winner.

Rob’s Vase and Epic Glaze Test

The judges were captivated by every aspect of this beautifully decorated vase. The expressive mark making, thoughtful glaze placement, and striking graphic composition come together in a piece full of joy and sophistication. This small yet understated beauty showcases remarkable skill in colour, form, and glaze choices, making it a truly standout piece.

The judges also want to celebrate Rob’s epic glaze test marathon, which has already inspired exciting new glaze combinations and become a real talking point in the studio. It is a wonderful contribution to the creative energy of the space and a testament to Rob’s spirit of exploration.

Congratulations Rob 🎉

We’ll be sharing the runners up shortly.

I’m going vase-tastic, I’ll post soon! ….. But starting with my trademark yellow vase to spread a little happiness! It’s the Thriplow daffodil festival this weekend and apparently a bumper crop!

GLAZING ALL DONE - ahead of tomorrow’s big gas firing .

For the keen eyed, you might have spotted a few beakers being fired upside down on their rims. These tessellate pleasingly with those the normal way up to maximise shelf-filling efficiency. I’m hoping I got the glaze thickness correct so that they don’t run and stick – will have to wait till Monday to find out.

So, today (oops yesterday ) I started to paint my tiles. Cobalt oxide on white tin tin glaze. It should turn out a nice blue painting. I’ve gone easy on the cobalt oxide as it’s very strong, these four tiles will be a good test. Can’t wait to see how they look when they are fired.
