An event on a little known issue, that desperately needs more awareness. Many people have no idea that modern slavery can exist in developed countries, and that it can happen in plain sight - it is this lack of understanding that makes it difficult to recognise and help victims.

“The Clewer Initiative and the Eastern Baptist Association are co-hosting a Modern Slavery Summit to help communities in and around Cambridge to combat modern slavery.”

Last year’s conference was excellent, we’re looking forward to this year’s event!

The African Society of the University of Cambridge (ASCU) is pleased to announce the fifth Africa Together Conference, which will be held on Saturday the 16th of June 2018 at the iconic Cambridge Union. The theme of this year's conference will be "Pathways to a New Africa".

Photos of CamIDC 2018!

We were very happy with how CamIDC 2018 went – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! The conference took place on Saturday 17th February, in St John’s Old Divinity School. There were over 100 attendees, split between events taking place in the Lecture Theatre, the Lightfoot Room, and Teaching Room 1. There were 19 speakers, participating in eight presentations and panels. All events were linked to the conference theme of “Productive Partnerships in International Development”. Call for research panel applications – UNHCR Geneva and Trafficking in Persons research opportunity

The University of Cambridge UNHCR research panel and Trafficking in Persons research panel are recruiting panellists to conduct research for UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, and for a leading global expert on the law of trafficking in persons.

All Cambridge students are welcome to apply. No experience is required, as panellists will be provided a training suite and manual outlining best practices of research for the purposes of these research prompts. The time commitment will not be extensive, and panellists will conduct research remotely. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct substantive research for UN, academic, and intergovernmental partners.

Prospective panellists with proficiency in languages other than English are encouraged to apply, especially Russian, Spanish, French, and Khmer, although language credentials are certainly not a prerequisite.

All applications will be considered for both UNHCR and Trafficking in Persons panels. If you have a strong preference for one panel, make note of this in the application form.
