Join CUFA as we screen 'The Watermelon Woman'!

When: Tuesday 20th October, 19:30
Where: Jesus College games room

About the film: In The Watermelon Woman, director Cheryl Dunye describes herself to be “pushing how narrativity works”. This self reflection is central to the charm of the joyous autofiction as Dunye herself plays Cheryl, an aspiring black le***an filmmaker working in a video store. But in the midst of her research into her documentary about nameless 1930s actress (‘the watermelon woman’) Cheryl wittily reflects on her own life developments.

A highlight of 90s New Q***r Cinema, this comedy gaily explores everything from desire, race, history and representation.

Join us for a bit of meta filmmaking with a charming film that made history.

Come and see CUFA's screening of the classic 'Some Like It Hot'!

When: Tuesday 13th October, 19:30
Where: Jesus College Games room

About the film: Some Like It Hot is a timeless comedy about two men who don drag while running from the mafia. After joining an all-female travelling band, both become infatuated by a tantalising singer played by the hilarious and all-too-frequently-overlooked Marilyn Monroe. Silliness ensues.

This is a great one to watch if you think all black and white films are very grave and effortful and you hope to have your mind changed. All are welcome and we hope to see you there!

Join CUFA film club as we screen Little Miss Sunshine!

When: Tuesday 6th October, 19:30
Where: Jesus College Games room

About the film: Little Miss Sunshine is a roadtrip-tragicomedy about a family taking a journey to the finals of a child beauty pageant, where their young daughter hopes to compete. On the way, the at-times dysfunctional family members confront their own self-view, relationships and the challenges of adolescence. It is beautifully sincere and touchingly relatable.

Hope to see you there to kick off the start of a very exciting year of CUFA events!
