Cambridge Conservation Volunteers

Cambridge Conservation Volunteers 62 years of conservation in Cambridge. All manner of conservation and habitat management undertaken in the region or abroad!

Cambridge Conservation Volunteers have been providing practical help to nature reserves in and around Cambridge since 1962. We also work at sites elsewhere in East Anglia, the UK and Europe. A lot of the work we do is maintaining habitats for wildlife. A side effect of traditional industry and agriculture was the habitat they provided for wildlife. As the economy changed so did the working practic

es that maintained the habitats which became overgrown and lost their wildlife value. We help by providing the skills and labour needed to maintain the habitats in the traditional way. This often means cutting back scrub that would have been kept down by grazing animals and coppicing trees that would have been part of commercial management to produce woodland products.

we have just released our first newsletter for Birds in Greenspaces, an exciting upcoming project that we feel you would be interested in.

With an exclusive focus on publicly accessible greenspaces, we are encouraging people to build a connection to their local space by recording birds, to find out the important role these greenspaces play for them.

Birds in Greenspaces brings together health and well-being, community connection and citizen science.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions and if you could share this opportunity with friends and contacts you think would be interested, we would greatly appreciate it.

The best way to find out more and to be kept informed is through our newsletter. To find out more and to sign up please visit our website:

Thank you very much for your time.

Last day at . Today .conservationvolunteers were working on cutting back willow and other small trees from the ditch that runs along the road. This is a favourite spot for dragon flies and they prefer sun. It was getting pretty overgrown and shady along the bank.
The sun came and went between squalls of rain. Much less cold and damp than yesterday though.
What a wonderful week with Heather and crew, including Gordon's dogs Jess and Dot.
Until next time Taynish!

What a wonderful day bashing gorse in the Taynish NNR. We were clearing a sheltered meadow space for the Marsh Fritillary butterfly. 🦋 The rain came and went, the buzzards swirled, a little lizard was found in hibernation and rehomed in a a wall. 🦎 Some ticks found a new home 😬

A wonderful day conserving on the Taynish Reserve. We were clearing the Alder from the stream to avoid any flogging in winter that might cause flooding in the meadow. Then a spot of weeding in the piggery.
Purple Devil's Bit Scabious still in flower, the only food of the rare Marsh Fritillary.
An Osprey curled over Loch Sween. The red seaweed looking almost autumnal. A black starfish crawled past my wellies.
