Cambridge United Foundation x Wintercomfort Sleepout 2027

We’re pleased to announce that our next Sleepout will take place on Friday 19 February 2027 at Abbey Stadium, home of Cambridge United Football Club⚽

We’d love your support, whether that’s joining us for the night, taking part in the event or helping us spread the word.

Nothing can replicate the experience of homelessness, but events like this help raise awareness and, importantly, raise the funds we need to continue supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in Cambridge.

📅 19 February 2027
📍 Cledara Abbey Stadium, Cambridge

For more information, see the below post from the Foundation!

Our Sleepout event will return on Friday February 19th 2027, bringing people together for one night in the terraces of Cambridge United Football Club’s Cledara Abbey Stadium. 😴

We will once again be teaming up with Wintercomfort to raise awareness and vital funds in support of their work with homeless and disadvantaged people in the city.

⚽ The Tommy McLafferty Cup is coming up this September!

The Tommy McLafferty Cup brings together institutions from across Cambridge for a football tournament supporting people experiencing homelessness, run in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Cambridge South.

This year, our Wintercomfort team needs your help!

If you have any spare or old football boots, shin pads or other football equipment that you no longer need, we’d be hugely grateful for donations to help get our team ready for the tournament.

If you can help, please get in touch with us by messaging Wintercomfort via social media, or emailing [email protected]

As temperatures continue to reach record-breaking levels, hot weather can be particularly difficult for the people we support, especially those who are sleeping rough or don’t have somewhere cool and safe to go.

We’re putting extra measures in place to help people stay safe, including:

💧 Extra water and drinks
🧂 Salty snacks to help replace lost electrolytes
🧴 Sun cream
🌳 Longer opening hours so people can get out of the heat, rest and cool down

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the weather and adapt our support as needed. Want to help us keep people safe this summer? You can support our Summer Appeal here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/wintercomfortsummerappeal26

Fact Friday 💚

This week marked one year since the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project (CCHP) started running cooking sessions at Wintercomfort.

Over the past 12 months, these sessions have become much more than cooking lessons. They've given people the chance to learn new skills, build confidence, share a meal and spend time together in a welcoming environment.

A huge thank you to everyone at CCHP who has given their time, energy and enthusiasm over the last year.

Case Study: Meet Samantha💜

After fleeing an abusive relationship, Sam arrived in Cambridge and was placed in temporary accommodation. Living with fibromyalgia, arrhythmia, autism, depression, anxiety, and C-PTSD made everyday life challenging, especially as her first-floor accommodation was no longer suitable for her mobility needs.

After being referred to Wintercomfort through a foodbank outreach session, Sam began working with our Women's Team to create a plan for the future.

Together, we helped Sam:
- Secure Band A priority on Home-Link and start bidding for permanent housing.
- Apply for funding towards an electric wheelchair and a free bus pass to improve her independence.
- Set up a repayment plan for rent arrears and recover missed council payments, reducing her debt.
- Connect with our community through women's group, cooking sessions, DIY workshops, yoga, and free swimming.

Sam has told us she feels truly listened to and supported, particularly because we take the time to explain things clearly and accommodate her autism. She says the support she's received has given her confidence, hope, and a sense of belonging as she rebuilds her life.

We're proud to work alongside people like Sam on their journey towards lasting, positive change.
