We don't just do crafts, but sports, games consoles, listening to music, table top games and conversations are not quite so easy to photograph! Interesting masks from Burwell Youth Bus last week.

Melbourn Generation Game Project is up and running with 15 young people keen to learn how to be fun, friendly and confident visitors to older people.

We are already so proud of these young people who have chosen to give up their own time to invest in further learning and personal development. By the end of the 10-week course, they will have achieved three new qualifications: Dementia Friends, Emergency First Aid, and The Generation Game Certificate. Many are also working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award, meaning this programme will complete their Bronze Skills Section and support them in progressing towards volunteering opportunities within their communities.

So far we have explored why each person chose to join the course, the older people in their lives, how to introduce themselves, the importance of being assertive, personal boundaries, and conversation starters when meeting someone for the first time. We’ve also shared snacks and hot chocolate along the way!

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming The Alzheimer’s Society for a Dementia Friends presentation.

Watch this space for more updates, and if you would like any further information please get in touch with Andrea Cowley at The Connections Bus Project.

This course has been generously funded by The Evelyn Trust, whose support is helping make this valuable opportunity possible for local young people.

Our successful courses are run across the county with many young people gaining confidence, skills and much more, that are transferable to all kinds of work and volunteering.

The Generation Game really does change lives. 💛

After completing our 10-week course, one of our young people has been visiting Etheldred House. During one visit, she met a resident who had once lived in the same village where she grew up.

It turned into a truly special reunion. When her mum arrived to collect her, she also recognised the resident from years ago, when their paths had crossed in the village. Mum had often wondered what had happened to her over the years.

To see them reconnect in such an unexpected and heartwarming way was incredibly moving — a beautiful example of the power of bringing generations together.

These are the moments that make The Generation Game so special. 💫

📣 Exciting Opportunity for Local Young People! 📣

Histon & Impington Parish Council are looking to fund a new Youth Space for young people in Years 9, 10 and 11.

The Connections Bus Project is ready to deliver this exciting new provision on their behalf — but we need your help first!

If you have a child in one of these year groups, please could you share the survey link below and encourage them to complete it.

Your feedback will help us choose the best day, time, and format for the project so we can make it as accessible, enjoyable, and useful as possible for as many young people as we can.

Thank you for your support! 🙌

We’re planning a new youth club in Histon/Impington for ages 14–16 and want your ideas to make it fun, welcoming and worth coming to. This quick survey should only take 2 minutes. Thank you!
