🌭☀️ BBQ week at Ipswich Day Opportunities!🍔

Last week, our Ipswich customers enjoyed a fantastic BBQ week at Ipswich Day Opportunities! 🎉

Every day, they had delicious BBQ food available at lunchtime for everyone to enjoy and we didn’t let the unpredictable British weather stop us! Whether it was sunshine or rain, the BBQ was on! 🌦️🔥

There were plenty of tasty burgers, hotdogs and, most importantly, lots of smiles! 😋❤️

Eliane, Sue, Ella and Sharon at our Basildon Day Opportunities enjoyed a lively and fun-filled time in the games room, playing darts. We also had Kerry who kindly offered to keep track of the scores and write it on the scoreboard. There was plenty of laughter, cheering with some friendly competition 😊

Peter, Tengda and Leanne at our Basildon Day Opportunities are taking part in a six-week volunteering placement at the Human Kind Café, gaining valuable work experience while supporting the café team. During their placement, they help with collecting cups, clearing and cleaning tables, and assisting in the kitchen with a range of tasks. This gives them the opportunity to build confidence, develop practical skills and contribute positively to the café.

Farm Fridays! 🌱🚜Our Basildon customers had an amazing time volunteering at We Are Barleylands Farm! 🐑🌿

The group spent time with the lovely Diane, who supported them with watering the fruits and vegetables in the polytunnel. Diane also shared her knowledge with the group, explaining what the different plants were, what they are used for, and how to look after them.

Our customers then got hands-on, helping to water the plants in the polytunnel and around the farm. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable knowledge, build confidence and work together as a team. 💪🌱

Customers at Basildon enjoyed getting out into nature with their specially designed sensory checklist, using fun icons to guide them as they explored what they could see 👀 hear 👂 touch 🤚 and smell 👃

Emily and Sharon at our Basildon Day Opportunities enjoyed getting stuck into some gardening! 🍂 They worked together to tidy up the leaves, clear the garden and give the outdoor space a fresh, sparkling look. A great way to enjoy the outdoors while building teamwork and pride in our shared space.

Customers at Basildon Day Opportunities enjoyed a fun money skills session using coin detective worksheets, colouring activities, and practical shopping tasks. They explored grocery shopping and choosing household items while building confidence with money and everyday decision-making, perfect for life skills.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome our local MP, Ben Obese-Jecty MP to Saxongate in Huntingdon.

We began the visit by sharing more about the wider work of Papworth Trust, including the need for more accessible housing and the changing landscape of employment support, giving him an overview of both our WorkWell and Routeways to Work programmes.

We gave him a tour of our Day Opportunities service where customers were taking part in maths and arts and crafts sessions, before it was time for some friendly competition at the Montagu Club where customers invited Ben for a game of Boccia! 🎯

It was great to introduce Ben to the sport, and we hope to welcome him back again soon. Thanks for visiting.
