Cambridge Carbon Footprint

Cambridge Carbon Footprint We help local residents to live more sustainably, turning concern about climate change into action. We run Repair Cafes, Swishes, Open Eco Homes and more.

Get involved! Volunteer, collaborate, come along to an event or access useful resources. CCF is a registered charity (no 1127376). We work to raise awareness of climate change issues and to support people in moving to low-carbon living. Our vision is of low carbon communities which are sustainable, resilient and rewarding.

Well, it was so hot this weekend I decided to follow our own advice and set up some . Without so much as a visit to B&Q, I raided the garden shed to find a couple of small unused tarpaulins, a few bamboo canes, garden string and from the ‘man-drawer’ some cuphooks. In the searing heat I had in no time screwed in the cuphooks, hooked on the tarpaulines, and stretched them taut with the canes and string. Hey presto! fitted on two of our south-facing upstairs rooms. It’s not called the greenhouse effect for nothing: much better to stop the sun’s rays getting through your windows than try to stop the heat spreading on the inside. Prevention is better than cure!

Why not come along to our “Get Ready for Heatwaves” on-line talk, 7.30pm on June 30th https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/get-ready-for-heatwaves-registration-1989224497019

Here's Anna (right), holding up the new handsewn banner made by Repair Cafe sewer extraordinaire Gina. Anna was dropping CCF's Swish Kit back after hosting the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 6th Swish (clothes swap party). If you would like to organise one in your community or workplace, then please come along to CCF's short, free online 'How to Run a Swish' training this coming Thursday 21st May at 7:30pm, book yourself in at bit.ly/4dfSrkI
Our last Annual Report showed that CCF's free to borrow Swish Kit was used for 25 events that diverted 1.7 tonnes of clothing from the waste stream. By encouraging reuse rather than new, an impressive 43 tonnes of CO2e was saved. These events are good for the planet, fun and help save money too. What's not to love!

We did it! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Big Give Earth Rise campaign, raising a record-breaking £19,660 for Cambridge Carbon Footprint's work. This will fund more Repair Cafes, more Open Eco Homes, more Imaginariums, more community based action on climate. Being the change we want to see in the world. Working towards the thriving communities within planetary boundaries that we all want to be part of.

CCF supports ordinary people to do extraordinary things - whether you're dipping your toe in and want to repair rather than replace or are ready to retrofit your entire home, we can help.

People seem to like what we do, some recent feedback:

"Thanks again to CCF and all your team for the brilliant Elf Repair Cafes!" (Julie, The Grand Arcade)

"Thank you for all your help throughout - it's amazing to have such support." (Tamara, Shepreth Swish organiser)

“The hosts gave us a very instructive tour, really demonstrating that switching to an air source heat pump is not too daunting and definitely doable.” (A visitor to one of our Open Eco Homes)

"The over-riding feedback from visitors to the Imaginarium at King’s has been how people felt welcomed and left with a greater sense of hope and a renewed energy to act as regenerators for nature." (Ruth of Cambridge Curiosity & Imagination)

"Can I say a huge thank you on behalf of the pupils of Parkside Community College’s Social Action Group for the help, support and expertise that CCF provided to support our young people with their films, installation and debate at the Cambridge Festival." (Geography Teacher)

“I thought the session training us to use the thermal imaging cameras was very professional, I like the Q&A after each section and it wasn’t too long.” (Thermal Imaging Training participant)

Please support us in our mission to help build a thriving and sustainable Cambridgeshire. Thanks to the Big Give any donations made until midday this Wednesday 29th April will be DOUBLED until we hit our target £20k! Click bit.ly/4cVNKMx

Despite being called Cambridge Carbon Footprint, we work alongside communities, local authorities, engineers, architects, green, nature groups and schools throughout Cambridgeshire.
In partnership with Cambridgeshire Libraries, Cambridgeshire County Council, community artist Hilary Cox Condron and the youth social mobility organisation 20TwentyProductions CIC, we had a fantastic time running the 'Heart of March Imaginarium' in the pretty Fenland town of March. The connections and ideas generated at this event led to the formation of the Fenland Environment Forum. Ably co-ordinated by Ashley Dolling of Fenland District Council this group now meets quarterly to share plans, resources and co-host events that help tackle the climate and nature crisis.
The famous celebrity 'Geese of March' (that have their very own zebra crossing) gave CCF staff a unique between-meeting encounter at a recent Fenland Env Forum meeting. Aren't they adorable?
If you like what we do around the County, please consider donating whatever you can. Thanks to the Big Give, until this coming Wednesday 29th April at midday, every pound will be DOUBLED - so twice the impact! Please click this short link to donate bit.ly/4cVNKMx.
Thank you.

• A Repair Cafe - we’ve created one of the biggest Repair Café networks in the world. Maybe you've enjoyed a Swish?
• We’ve organised hundreds of tours of early adopters homes via our Open Eco Homes project and trained thousands of people to use thermal imaging cameras.
• Maybe you've encountered graduates of our Powerful Climate Voices project that amplifies the voices of local secondary pupils around the climate and nature crisis?
