Alex took on the ultimate challenge to raise money for the hospital that treated her wonderful Dad, completing a tandem skydive in May and raising £1,162 for Addenbrooke's. 🙏

"Towards the end of Dad's life, when he was in ICU, communicating became incredibly challenging. That's where myICUvoice came in. This amazing iPad app literally gave Dad his voice back. It allowed him to talk to the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for him, ensuring his wishes were understood and his comfort prioritised. But, more than that, it allowed him to continue to talk with us, his family and friends. Those conversations and moments of connection, were so important and enhanced his quality of life."

Thank you, Alex! Your incredible feat will have a long-lasting impact at Addenbrooke's, supporting more incredible innovations like myICUvoice. What a powerful reminder of the direct impact fundraising like this will have on patients at Addenbrooke's, helping to support them through some of their most vulnerable moments. 🫶

This app, which was initially developed with the help of a £40,000 development grant funded by our supporters, features easy-to-use touch screen technology, which allows patients to tap on simple icons to respond to questions, allowing vital communication and connection when they need it most. 💙

You're helping the course of recovery for patients healing from stroke and brain injury. 🙌

Distress, frustration and boredom are common during long stays in hospital, but especially on the neurorehabilitation ward, where healing patients face additional challenges. With the help of Tend VR, your support has brought a research-backed mindfulness-based programme to our neurorehabilitation wards through these brilliant VR headsets. 🤩

Our staff have trained with Tend VR to learn how the headsets work, so they can better assist patients when using the equipment. This will help promote greater wellbeing in healing from brain injuries, and reduce stress among patients that could help speed up recovery.

This pilot scheme would not be possible without your support. 🙏

Tend’s Virtual Reality Mindfulness-Based Intervention (Tend VR-MBI) is designed to support people experiencing anxiety and depression. Designed by and co-created with clinical specialists, technical experts and, importantly, people with lived experience, it guides you through a structured programme of mindfulness and meditation practices, combined with interactive exercises drawn from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). We're so proud to see how this visit to the Cambridge Children's Hospital construction site really inspired our amazing trail partners! 🤩

"Seeing first-hand the support available at some of the toughest moments in a family's life brings home just how important this project is."

Our partners got to see how this empty canvas will become the first specialist children's hospital in the region, a groundbreaking facility combining mental and physical healthcare to treat the whole person. They got to see firsthand how this will change the way young patients receive treatment, and demonstrate the impact their support will have for generations to come. 🙏

To our incredible partners, thank you for being part of the future of healthcare in Cambridgeshire and beyond! 💙

Leaving a gift to Addenbrooke's in your will is one of the most impactful things you can do to change lives for patients. ✍️

Your legacy could be the joy and relief you bring to patients like Oscar, who benefitted from the Laughter Specialists our supporters funded during his treatment for cancer, or it could be the pioneering research leading to breakthroughs in treatment, the technology helping to speed up diagnoses, or the peaceful wall art bringing a sense of comfort and calm to patients in stressful hospital environments.🙏

Your legacy matters to patients at Addenbrooke's. Leave a gift, change a life. 💙

There's nothing worse than facing an uncomfortable procedure like cannulation and they can't find a vein, forcing you to come back to do it all over again. 😬

🙌The VScan Air handheld ultrasound device is changing that, thanks to you.

This ultrasound-guided cannulation at Ely Diagnostic Centre has allowed more people to be treated closer to home, with fewer failed attempts and a smoother, better experience for patients. With more appointments finished first time, there's less distressing failed attempts and frustrating rebookings. 🥳

This week, we caught up with Anna from the Resuscitation Services team to visit the brand new AED installed in the Diamond Jubilee Gardens at Addenbrooke's. The importance of increasing access to AEDs by installing them in more places will help save lives on the campus and the local area. 🙏

Alongside the new AED in Car Park 1, these installations were supported by your kind donations, paying for the vital housing that includes temperature controls to protect this life-saving equipment in extreme weather.

Dan Shortland, Resuscitation Officer at CUH, said: “We’re very proud to have these potentially life-saving devices installed at the hospital thanks to our charity supporters. They are not only for visitors and staff at to use but also for the local community. Survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest is currently less than 10%, but having immediate access to an AED could increase this to 70%. So it could literally mean the difference between life and death.”

The beautiful Jubilee Gardens were renovated in 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II thanks to the very generous donation of an avid supporter and former patient.

Ray had a transformative experience at Addenbrooke's in 1972 after a motorcycle accident nearly took his right leg, so when he started the Cambridgeshire Vintage Tractor Club road run in 2021, he was inspired to raise money for the hospital!

This year, Ray and our amazing friends at the club have raised over £3,156 during their annual charity road run, bringing their total fundraising for Addenbrooke's so far to £26,311! 🥳 And we're already locked in for 2027!🤩

Thank you, Ray, and all of the Committee, for giving back to your hospitals. Every penny raised goes directly to supporting patients, families and staff at Addenbrooke's.
