Students, Faculty, Alumni of the University of Cambridge came together today, to extend solidarity to those in India fighting to protect its democratic and secular values. Those gathered at the historic Kingโ€™s Parade pledged to continue the movement in defence of the Indian Constitution. The constitution which is being slowly dismantled by Narendra Modiโ€™s rightwing government.
The preamble to the constitution was read. There were teachouts and sloganeering.
It was agreed that the CAA, which seeks to naturalize citizenship of all unregistered immigrants who have entered before 2015, barring Muslims, and makes religion a criteria for citizenship, is unconstitutional. The resistance in India, and the support to it from Cambridge would continue.
