Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity We're here to Make Every Moment Count for patients & families & connect our supporter community. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £8.1 million.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Our ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. Our aim being to provide the highest quality care, helping people to make every moment count. Around 3,600 patients each year are cared for a

t the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices. It will cost over £14 million to run our services in 2025/2026. With the help of our community, we need to raise a further £5.9 million through donations, fundraising activities, retail sales, The Education and Conference Centre and Bistro. If we fail to meet this target the difference will, reluctantly, have to be taken from our limited reserves.. Sustaining services for people in our community is our focus and therefore we are extremely grateful to everyone who demonstrates their dedication, commitment and generosity and helps protect our reserves for the future. It was pleasure to attend the first Health Hub Event in Northstowe last month.

Supported by Northstowe Muslims, the event brought together local organisations and community groups to promote health and wellbeing. Sara Robins (Director of Clinical Services and Deputy CEO) and Carly Wills (Matron of Clinical Services) represented Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, sharing information about our services.

Events like these are a valuable opportunity for us to listen, learn and build connections with the communities we support and who support us.

A welcoming space for people experiencing grief, bereavement or loss is continuing at our Hospice under a new name: Grief Connections.

Formerly known as Grief Kind Space, the free, drop-in group meets every Friday from 10am–12noon in the Bistro and is open to anyone who feels they would benefit from support. You do not need any connection to Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to attend.

One member shared:
"It's been wonderful spending time with others who 'get it' and understand emotions. We talk, laugh and cry. It's the most important part of my week. I've built wonderful friendships."

At just 11 years old, Shyla is preparing for her biggest challenge yet.

Later this month, Shyla and Darren Barnard will set off on a remarkable 93-mile walk from Silverstone Race Track to the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech, covering more than a marathon a day for three days.

Shyla is taking on the challenge in memory of her friend's mum, while Darren is walking in memory of his wife, Emma. Together, they are raising funds for the Alan Hudson Centre and for Edith's Purse, a charity founded by Emma.

Having already raised more than £15,000 for good causes, Shyla hopes this latest challenge will take her close to an incredible £20,000.

We're delighted to share that a piece of our Hospice garden will be heading to the BBC Gardeners' World Autumn Fair this September.

Inspired by the Hospice gardens in Cambridge and Wisbech, Garima Chandra has designed the border garden and celebrates the care, compassion and dedication of our volunteer gardeners.

The display will feature planting drawn from our own gardens and tell the story of a space that brings comfort, reflection and connection to so many patients, loved ones, volunteers and colleagues.

If you're visiting the BBC Gardeners' World Autumn Fair at Audley End (11–13 September), we'd love you to stop by and see the garden for yourself. 🌿
