We are delighted to announce our new event in collaboration with the college law societies of Churchill, Sidney Sussex, Wolfson, and Clare: a three-session programme on commercial law delivered by Julius Handler, Cambridge alumnus and associate at Slaughter and May.

In collaboration with PLAN, we are excited to host Reed Smith for a talk on commercial awareness.

Reed Smith is an international law firm with 30 offices globally. Representatives from Reed Smith will be covering how to improve commercial awareness ahead of upcoming deadlines for first year schemes.

In collaboration with Cambridge University Venture Capital and Private Equity, we are excited to host Edward Bennett for a talk on Private Equity.

Edward is a corporate lawyer specializing in PE fund formation and PE M&A in APAC. He is a Partner at K&L Gates Straits Law LLC, and is a Cambridge law alumni.

He will be covering what PE is, the work PE houses, the work law firms do in relation to PE, and will end with a Q&A.

In partnership with the UCL Law Society, we are excited to be hosting a Commercial Awareness Competition with Future City Lawyers. The Competition will involve analysing a case study with ESG elements and the top performing participant(s) will have the opportunity to have a careers guidance session with Mr Denis Viskovich. Participating in this competition will certainly provide good practice for interviews and assessment centres at City law firms and hone your commercial acumen.

This Q&A style webinar will feature three panelists, all of whom are future trainee solicitors who, combined, have secured training contracts at Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Hogan Lovells, Sidley Austin, and Slaughter and May.

The panelists will provide you with a comprehensive walk-through of what to expect in the entire application process. They will be answering questions related to:

- Researching firms (what resources to turn to, what information specifically to look for)
- Writing strong applications (how to best showcase your strengths, how to tailor your application to the firm, how to structure a cover letter, what mistakes to avoid, how to show commercial awareness in your answers)
- Acing psychometric tests (the Watson Glaser test, situational judgment test)
- Assessment Centre (how to prepare, what questions to expect)
- The panelists’ personal journey

we are excited to have Mr Denis Viskovich, founder of Future City Lawyers, deliver an INTERACTIVE workshop on Assessment Centres.

This event is a promising one for those looking to pursue the barrister route or simply for those interested in gaining a different and unique view of commercial law!

Vincent Moran QC is a leading QC whose practice covers construction, engineering, transport, energy and information technology disputes. He is a History alumni at Cambridge University, making this the perfect opportunity for non-law students to ask questions! He has most notably appeared in the House of Lords in the SAAMCO case (as you may famously recall from Tort law!), making his pathway from non-law student to successful barrister an impressive one to learn about.
