We would like to thank the Cambourne community for the overwhelming support shown to the original Cambourne Fireworks Display Management Committee following Friday’s announcement that responsibility for this year’s event has been transferred to Cambourne Town Council and that the Management Committee has stood down.
We would also like to clarify comments that have been made regarding the first aid provision for the 2026 event.
The medical cover booking had originally been made in the name of one of Management Committee members on behalf of Cambourne Fireworks Display. The quotation and booking details were subsequently forwarded to Cambourne Town Council to demonstrate that appropriate medical cover arrangements were in place.
Following the Management Committee’s decision to stand down, we contacted the provider with the following email:
“Dear [Redacted],
I am emailing to formally request to cancel our event cover that is booked on Friday 06th November 2026 as the event is currently cancelled in its current format and we're unsure whether it will go ahead entirely; if it does then you may get a different booking from Cambourne Town Council but they may go with a different medical cover provider.
Kind regards,
Cambourne Fireworks Management Committee.”
At the time, we did not know whether Cambourne Town Council would commit to running the event following the Management Committee’s decision to stand down. As the booking was held in our name, we felt it was appropriate to notify the provider that the event may not proceed in its existing format and management structure. We also made clear that they could be contacted directly by Cambourne Town Council regarding any future cover requirements.
The Cambourne Fireworks Display has been a much loved community event for 25 years, and we sincerely hope that this year’s event is a success. We also hope it continues to operate as a not-for-profit event for the benefit of the residents of Cambourne and the wider community.
The Management Committee is currently considering the most appropriate way to distribute the remaining funds from the 2024 event. Options include donating funds to organisations that have supported the display over the years or seeking assurances that the funds can be ring-fenced to support this year’s event.
No final decision has been made, and we will provide a further update once discussions have concluded.
All Management Committee members are deeply saddened by these developments. Over recent months, it became increasingly difficult for the Committee and Cambourne Town Council to work together in a way that would allow the event to continue under the Committee’s management. Ultimately, this was one of the factors that led to the decision to stand down.
It has been a privilege to organise and deliver this event for the residents and wider community of Cambourne over the past total 25 years, and we are incredibly proud of what has been achieved with the support of our volunteers, sponsors and local residents.
