WILD Young Parents WILD wants young parents & their babies to have a fair start in life. For this to happen, we support new parents & parents-to-be aged 23 and under.

A fair start means every baby born to a young parent gets an equitable, fulfilling chance at life. WILD believes that young parents and their children have a right to a better future, equal choice, education and opportunity, and freedom from poverty. WILD works with young parents where one parent is under 20. We also welcome some young parents up to 23 years if they have extra needs. This includes pregnant young women, and parents who are not living with their children. We welcome referrals from professionals via telephone. If you are a young person who would like some support from WILD, or to attend one of our groups, send us a message and someone will get back to you!

WILD is a charity rooted in Cornwall, with a national mission to create a fair start for young parent families.

Young parents and their babies face significant health, social and economic inequalities. We don’t think that’s fair and we are working to change it. If you share our belief and are passionate about tackling inequality, strengthening families and ensuring babies get the best possible start in life, join us as our Parent & Welcome Focus Worker in our West Cornwall team.

Thank you to everyone at Mawnan WI and all your supporters for choosing to fundraise for WILD.

Not only do those funds make a vital difference, the belief you hold in our work with the youngest of parents across Cornwall really means something too.

Your support and donation really makes a difference 💫

Mawnan WI was pleased to be able to support Falmouth Rotary Club’s Run Mawnan event again this year. We chose to raise funds for the charity WILD after the inspiring talk given to us a few months ago. WILD is a national charity with a Cornish heart. It works with young parents and their babies in Cornwall, and with others across the UK, to make things better for all young parent families.
There were so many runners taking part - over 300 - and several community groups also had stalls offering cakes, a Lucky Dip and Tombola. We organised Teas and Coffees, a Takeaway Salad Bar, Mug Tombola and a Mini-Hamper Raffle. This kept us very busy throughout the morning! Fortunately the weather stayed dry and by the end we were in full sunshine.
Many thanks in particular to all of our members who you can see in the photos and others along with some husbands who in various ways enabled us to put on our contribution to this lovely village event. A special thank you to those who helped us to put up and take down the gazebos…we could not have done it without you!

WILD is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help build the future of our local and national work.

We particularly welcome people who are or have been a young parent, or who grew up in a young parent family. Your experience and understanding is valuable, and we want the voices of people who know what young parent family life is really like to help shape WILD.

We’re also keen to hear from people who can bring skills and experience in areas such as:

• Strategy and development
• Finance and fundraising
• Communications and marketing
• Charity governance and law
• Influencing for change
• Health and social care systems

You don’t need previous Trustee or Board experience. We can support you through the application process and help you learn what you need to know.

A few of us couldn’t resist getting some of the WILD team involved in this little dinosaur challenge on our team day last week… and we think the results speak for themselves! 😂

Because behind the serious work, there’s a team who genuinely love what we do… and clearly know their dinosaur noises! 🦖🤣

Little hands, big learning💡

Sensory play can be anything that stimulates our senses - it plays an important role in children's development!

Some benefits include:
⭐️ Understanding cause and effect
⭐️ Developing fine motor skills
⭐️ Supporting memory and problem solving
⭐️ Emotional regulation and communication

It doesn't have to be complicated to be good fun🫛

🎨 Messy Play at WILD 🎨

We love to get messy while making beautiful art here at WILD. A child led activity where their creativity can run free. Whether we use brushes, spray bottles or our hands, the process is always so much fun! 🌟

Not only does it create masterpieces, but it also improves child development! It's not just for the children, our parents and workers get involved too! Building relationships by bonding over a shared activity 🌈

🌱 Two years of growing together at WILD 🌱

Our WILD garden and allotment space has been bringing families closer to nature for 2 years this week!

It’s become a place to slow down, explore, get messy and connect, where babies and children can learn through nature, and young parents can enjoy meaningful time together away from the pressures of everyday life. 🌿

We’ve particularly loved watching families grow their own food with us, from planting tiny seeds to harvesting food to enjoy at snack time. 🥕🍓

It might be a garden, but to us it’s so much more.
It’s a place to grow, connect, explore and flourish together. 🌱💚

Here’s to many more muddy hands, happy memories and things growing at WILD! ✨
