We are looking for a Programme Secretary (due to the sad loss of our previous member) to help the present member with organising talks at King Edward Mine. These generally take place the second Friday of each month and on Zoom the second Monday per month. The talks have proved to be very popular and would be a great shame if they ended.

For more details please email: [email protected]

We have held a wide variety of talks over the years and in more recent years shown on Zoom to our members far and wide. Due to losing our Programme Secretary this post has been taken on temporarily for over a year now, hoping a new volunteer would come forward. Unfortunately, as this hasn't happened, we will no longer be having our monthly talks at KEM or on Zoom once the booked ones have ended. This is a very disappointing decision to make but holding several positions for one person is not sustainable.

If you feel you can offer any help to the society or wish for more information please message [email protected]

Thank you!

Today we celebrate the anniversary of Camborne's famous son, Richard Trevithick was born on April 13th in 1771at Penhallick Vean Farmhouse opposite the old South Crofty entrance.
On Christmas Eve in 1801 he successfully harnested high pressure steam for the first steam carriage to propel it up Camborne Hill.
In 1803 the "New Castle" was built by him the first locomotive to do actual work.
In 1805 he adapted his high pressure steam engine to drive an iron rolling mill and also propel a barge with the aid of paddles.
His engine also propelled the first steam dredger in 1806 also drove a farm threshing machine.
Richard died in Dartford, Kent on April 22nd 1833 but will always be remembered in both stature and achievement.
Camborne celebrates his great achievements by holding a special day in his honour and Trevithick Day this year will be held on Saturday April 25th, 2026
