🚲 Let’s get our little ones riding! 🚲

Over the last nine months, we’ve been absolutely delighted to provide so many bicycles for children across our local community. Seeing the difference a bike can make to a child’s confidence, independence and sense of freedom has been amazing. ❤️

But if you’re looking for somewhere your child can enjoy that freedom away from traffic and on a closed road, then CamborneTown.Com have just the event for you!

🎉 Camborne BID are proud to be hosting the 5th annual Tykes on Trikes bicycle race in Camborne town!

It’s a fantastic family event, and we’d love to encourage you and your families to enjoy the day and show your support for a great community event.

And there’s an extra little bonus for every child taking part…

🎁 Every goody bag will include a voucher from the Cornwall Bicycle Project for a FREE bicycle MOT and safety check at our Camborne store to be used within 12months of the race.

Go along and cheer on the little riders, support a fantastic local event 👏

There’s still time for your child to register for the Tykes on Trikes bike race which takes place on Sunday 13th September.

- Free Face Painting
- Free Goodie Bag
- Explore a real fire engine
- Free for children 0-10 yrs to take part

We also have the Twinkling Stars category which is for any child who would prefer a quieter, gentler race.

❤️ HELP US KEEP OUR DEFIBRILLATOR ON THE WALL ❤️

We hope you never need it… but if you live or work close to our Camborne unit in Formal BusinessPark, you may have noticed the defibrillator on our wall.

Originally funded through the incredible support of Oscar’s Journey, this life-saving piece of equipment has been available to our local community for some time. It is regularly serviced and maintained, ensuring that it is ready when it is needed.

And it has been needed.

Our servicing company has told us that the defibrillator has been collected from our unit numerous times and taken to scenes where someone desperately needed it. We may never know the outcome of every call, but knowing that this equipment has been there when somebody needed it really brings home just how vital it is. ❤️

As a small charity, however, keeping it operational comes with an annual cost of £250.

That may not sound like a huge amount, but for a small charity, finding an additional £250 every year to keep this vital community resource in service can be a real challenge.

So, we are reaching out to local people and local businesses to see if anyone would be willing to sponsor anything they can spare towards the £250 a year running costs, helping us keep it maintained, operational and available to the community.

💚 £250 could help keep a potentially life-saving piece of equipment available 24/7.

We are incredibly proud to have this defibrillator on our wall, but we need your help to keep it there.

If you are a local business that would like to sponsor the defibrillator, or an individual who would like to contribute towards the cost, please get in touch with us.

Thank you for supporting our charity and helping us keep this important resource available to our community. ❤️

🚲☕ What a fantastic morning in our Camborne workshop!

We were delighted to welcome two candidates to our free, over-55s bike maintenance workshop, funded by cornwall as part of the Live Longer better programme.

It was a brilliant session covering everything from how to clean and care for your bicycle, through to setting up derailleurs, basic bike maintenance and emergency repairs.

There was plenty of learning, lots of laughs, a LOT of coffee and, of course, plenty of biscuits! 🍪☕ We also had some great conversations about all things bicycles and the benefits of staying active and confident on two wheels.

A huge thank you to Active Travel for supporting us and helping make workshops like this possible. Opportunities like these go a long way in supporting our local community, helping people build practical skills and encouraging more people to get out and enjoy cycling. ❤️🚲

Here’s to many more workshops and many more happy miles!

🚲 “Do you renovate, service, repair and build bicycles? That is one question we get asked a lot.

The answer is absolutely YES! 🙌

We have Cytech technicians and a great group of volunteers, and we’re always happy to welcome you through the doors, whether you’re spending £10 on a small repair or trusting us with a full bicycle build.

Whatever the job, you should always expect the same level of service.

One thing we pride ourselves on is honouring the quotes we give you. If we discover that additional parts or work are needed and we can’t complete the job within the original quote, we will always contact you first before carrying out any extra work.

We don’t like surprise bills, and we don’t think you should either! 👍

You can put your trust in our technicians to deliver fantastic service and reliable repairs.

Just this week, we had a customer bring in a very, very expensive bicycle that needed partially assembling. They trusted us to get it right, and we was able to:

🔧 Cut the steerer to the correct length
🔧 Feed and install new brake lines
🔧 Connect the SRAM and Hope brakes, inc bleed
🔧 Fit the fully integrated headset
🔧 Install a BBInfinite bottom bracket
🔧 Fit the SRAM DUB system

…and all at a very affordable price, the customer was very happy. This was a partial build in which the customer added the derailleurs, chain, bar tape and sorted their own position as they requested.

It was fantastic having such an incredible bicycle in the workshop, and we genuinely love jobs like that. But ultimately, we love the really, really small jobs just as much.

Got a problem with your brakes? Bring it in, we’ll sort it out.

Having trouble with your gears? Bring it in, we’ll sort it out.

Our servicing and repair work is carried out around our education provision, giving our technicians dedicated time each week to keep the workshop moving and get customers back out riding as part of or community commitment.

So, to all our customers, thank you for putting your trust in us. ❤️

Whether it’s a £10 repair or a dream bike build, we’ll always treat your bicycle with the care and attention it deserves.

🚲 Big job or small job, we’re here to help.

Thats a wrap for this academic year!😪
We start the new one next week!😁

Over the last 12 months, which, for us, we see as an academic year running from the beginning of September to the end of August the Cornwall Bicycle Project has been incredibly proud to have helped so many students and volunteers develop their skills, achieve their goals and take the next steps in their journey. 🚲

As a project that provides alternative provision, we often see people walk through our doors with low self-esteem, some of whom may never have received a certificate in their life.

Anthony, Education and Workshop Manager at our Camborne workshop, explains what these achievements can mean:
“As somebody who left school with no GCSEs, I can 100% relate to how some of these pupils and students feel when they first start at our unit. It’s often easy to feel that because you may not have succeeded in one part of life, you may not succeed in another. But ultimately, we’re here to turn that around.
What we try to do is build confidence within the students and provide a settled environment in which they can thrive. With one-to-one learning, we aim to build their confidence and help them believe that nothing is unachievable in life.”

One of the ways we recognise and celebrate those achievements is through AQA awards, nationally recognised certificates that demonstrate practical skills and knowledge.

We offer four levels of AQA in bicycle maintenance:

🔧 AQA Entry Level – Bicycle Maintenance
Covering the essential basics, including puncture repairs, bicycle cleaning, and health and safety within a workshop environment.

🔧 AQA Level 1 – Bicycle Maintenance
Building on those foundations with skills such as gear set-up, brake fault finding, and disconnecting and reconnecting a bicycle chain.

🔧 AQA Level 2 – Bicycle Maintenance
A higher standard of practical bicycle maintenance, including headset removal and replacement, bottom bracket removal and replacement, brake fault analysis, wheel truing and a range of other skilled repairs.

🔧 AQA – Brake Bleeding
Focusing specifically on brake fault analysis, brake repair and the practical skills involved in brake bleeding.
And this year, we are absolutely delighted and incredibly proud to say that 47 AQA certificates have been awarded over the last 12 months! 🎉

We think that’s a fantastic achievement, and we want to offer our biggest congratulations to every student and volunteer who has worked hard to achieve their award.

We hope these certificates will help you take your next steps, whether that’s into the bicycle trade, further training, employment, or simply building confidence and skills for the future.

We are incredibly proud of every single one of you.
And this achievement isn’t just down to the students and volunteers. We are equally proud of our fantastic tutors, staff, admin team and volunteers who give their time, knowledge and encouragement to help others succeed.

47 certificates. Countless hours of learning. So many achievements to celebrate.

Well done, everyone! 🚲👏

🎉 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO TAKU & BEN! 🚲👏

We’re incredibly proud of Taku and Ben, who have both successfully completed our Power in Pedals project, funded by the National Grid, and achieved their AQA qualification in Bicycle Maintenance! 🎓🔧

Over the last four weeks, both lads have shown incredible dedication, determination and enthusiasm, and they’ve been absolutely brilliant additions to our Camborne workshop.

🚵 Taku
From the very first session, Taku told us he was travelling down from Barnstaple, a two-hour journey each way for every session! 😮 That’s some commitment. Because of the distance, we offered Taku the opportunity to complete the remainder of his course in one full day, which he successfully finished with us yesterday. His certificate will be arriving with him in the coming days.

A keen mountain biker, Taku has really thrown himself into the project and has gained some fantastic new skills that will help him maintain and look after his own bikes. 👏

📻 Ben
Ben lives a little closer to us and you may have also heard him on a local radio station in Redruth! He’s a keen rider himself and has been fantastic to have around the workshop.

It’s been brilliant watching Ben’s confidence grow over the last four weeks. He was understandably a little shy during his first week, but look at him now, he was even answering our phones today when people were calling in! 😂👏

We can genuinely see both Taku and Ben working in bike shops in the future, and we couldn’t be happier with what they’ve achieved.

Well done, lads! 🥳 You are the first two students to successfully complete this special project, and you’ve set the bar incredibly high.

A massive thank you for all your hard work, enthusiasm and positivity. We’ve loved having you both in the workshop. ❤️

We’re now looking forward to welcoming more Power in Pedals students to our St Austell branch in September. 🚲🔧

Well done, Taku & Ben! 🌟

While the lads were in the workshop working hard this morning, Anthony went on a voluntary community outing to Carnon Downs repair cafe organised by Feock Parish Council.

In 90minutes, 5 bikes and a trike were looked at with some repairs needed. We really enjoyed attending and want to thank Feock Parish Council for providing a fantastic service to their local residents.

We look forward to attending another 😀
