On Tuesday Evening Collingwood College held a celebration evening, where Syd received an award 💔

The Barker Award for Resilience, Courage and Fortitude

The Principal, Mr Tanner said a few words about Syd

“To have known Syd Hempson for even a minute was to have gained something special. Her determination, strength, charisma and wicked sense of humour were a joy to encounter. To see this power from someone so young was amazing, to see if from someone dealing with so much was awe inspiring. Syd endured substantial medical procedures and missed significant learning. She missed time to socialise. But despite all this, she remained such a significant part of the year group and tonight we celebrate her resilience, her courage and her bravery. Syd will never be forgotten and it is an honour to remember her this evening”

A lovely evening but very emotional. Kelly went along to the school to collect Syd’s award, which was presented to her by The Chair of Govenors Mr Barker. For Kelly to get up on the stage was so, so brave. She was amazing 💜

Monday was a very difficult day for Kelly, all Syd’s friends got themselves ready to go back to school and join year 10, which meant a change of jumper colour from Blue to Black.

About a week before Syd gained her Angel wings she said to Kelly, ‘you know mum next year I’ll be in Year 10, wearing a black jumper’ 😢💔

However a little smile was put on Kelly’s face last night when she saw a post from her friend Hannah.

Hannah had 14 inches chopped off her hair which she has donated to the Little Princess Trust, as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, this has been dedicated to Sydnee.
