NCI - Calshot Tower & Stone Point National Coastwatch Institution -
NCI Calshot Tower - call sign: Calshot NCI
NCI Stone Point (at Lepe) - call sign: Stone Point NCI Full training is provided.

NCI Calshot is the result of months of phone calls, letters and hard work carried out by the Trustees of the National Coastwatch Institution coupled with the generosity of Associated British Ports who allow NCI free use of the tower. National Coastwatch is a registered charity: No. 1159975

Our mission is quite simple – we are the ‘Eyes Along The Coast’, to Spot, Plot and Report. SPOT - we mainta

in a continuous visual watch from Ryde Steeple to our South East, Cowes to our South and from Fawley across to Netley, north of the lookout during daylight hours. PLOT – Identify the location of any incident so it can be plotted quickly on an Admiralty Chart or Ordnance Survey Map when reporting to the authorities

REPORT – contact call HM Coastguard at Lee-on-Solent who will decide on the best course of action to follow. Volunteers come from all walks of life with a number of watchkeepers having no previous maritime experience. A good pair of eyes and inquisitive nature are all you’ll need to join the team, we’ll teach you the rest all of which are excellent life skills; You’ll find out how to read Admiralty Charts and Ordnance Survey Maps: Understand how the moon dictates how tides work: You’ll get to know the Beaufort Wind scale is made up and learn some basic weather forecasting! You’ll almost certainly work with the emergency services providing valuable information and become familiar with Marine VHF radio. If you’d like to find out more please email [email protected]

Congratulations to our colleagues at NCI Needles on being featured in the latest RYA Members Magazine. The article describes an incident in which a yacht which had lost its tiller in the Needles Channel issued a Mayday. It is an excellent example of how NCI Stations contribute to safety along our coasts.

SPOT was at "Bark on the Beach" Lepe Country Park - Hampshire County Council on Saturday (13th June). SPOT gave out lots of SPOT stickers and the kids (& adults!) loved seeing SPOT around.

Having visited Solent Rescue Lifeboat and undertaking some training, the National Coastwatch Institution mascot SPOT claimed to be "The Coolest Dog at Lepe"!

On National Coastwatch Day, we'd like to recognise and thank the volunteers of the National Coastwatch Institution and in particular NCI - Calshot Tower & Stone Point

We know how much dedication goes into keeping watch and helping to make our waters safer for everyone. Thank you to all NCI volunteers for the important work you do, today and throughout the year.

From everyone at Hamble Lifeboat, thank you for your continued support and service.

We celebrated the NCI 2026 NCI Awareness Weekend in Lymington with the launch our now national NCI Mascot "SPOT the Watckeeper".

Well to say the weather was challenging on Saturday 6th June would be a bit of an understatement! Wind and rain was the order of the day. We had a sudden change of venue with the Lymington United Reformed Church stepping up to help and support us by allowing us to use their front entrance area, many thanks to them.

We were visited by the Lymington & Pennington Town Mayor, Cllr. Colm McCarthy, raised some funds from our "Coastwatch Tombola", and increased our profile. Together with the tea and cake from the LURC cafe - a result really.

Thank you to all the Watchkeepers who helped at the event - without you being there yesterday what would we do.....Fiona C. Mick W, Mike W, Jay S & David B.!

The D-Day Service in Lepe Country Park - Hampshire County Council is today, Sunday 7th June, 1030 to midday. Free to attend but parking charges apply.

Today we pause to honour all who took part in the D‑Day landings 82 years ago — those who crossed the Channel, those who supported from home, and those who never returned.

As our volunteers keep watch today, we also pay our respect to all those involved on that day 82 years ago.

We will remember them.
