I'm sure you'll agree, Duck Race was a quacking great day!

Planning began around February, then over 200 man hours were racked up in months before Duck Race going door to door selling tickets.

On the day, it took 50 people to run things, in the river, in the burger van, marshalling on Pocket Park, The Wharf, the Beach and at the Start Line.

There were only 27 club members available on the day, so we were blessed to have help from family members, Friends of Lions, additional volunteers from the town, The Calne Detachment of Army Cadets and from the local Rotary Club.

Something like Duck Race simply wouldn't be possible without all these people. Because of the dedication of all these amazing volunteers, Calne Lions have been able to raise almost £19,000 - which we can use to give back to our community, supporting those in need.

THANK YOU!!!

Day 3 of Volunteers' Week and we are focussing on our amazing members.

Last night Calne Lions welcomed Calne Town Mayor, Cllr Tim Havenith to our monthly general meeting, where we badged up a new member to the club.

Lion Charis brings our member count to 30. That is 30 volunteers that give their time to raising money, supporting those in need and serving our community.

Last night, Lion President Alison and Lion Jo visited the crafty ladies of Calne Crochet & Needlecraft Club to present them with their trophy and certificate for winning Best Dressed Business Duck and also a certificate for coming 2nd in the race.

It's not often that a "big duck" manages to win both best dressed and place in the race itself!

Well done, yet again! 🦆

Lions Neil & Jo visited The Dog House for their Quiz Night and while they were there they presented Amy with the Dog House's trophy for winning the Business Duck Race last Saturday.

Well done for winning on your debut entry. Barney the dog (duck) was obviously channeling his inner greyhound!

Duck Race is a massive undertaking, each year. As soon as the sleigh is stripped and "put to bed" in January, planning for Duck Race begins.

Behind the scenes there is a LOT of paperwork, our online Duck Shop needs updating and opening, hundreds of emails are sent, orders processed, ducks delivered, signs updated and put out, thousands of tickets sold door to door and stalls coordinated.

The weeks running up to Duck Race, there are briefings, shopping trips, certificates printed, cakes baked.

The day before Duck Race club members are still hard at work, prepping the river and setting up the course. Some are still busy come the evening, upto their ears making lunches for the volunteers the following day.

On the day itself, many members and volunteers are up at the quack of dawn, getting equipment moved and set up. When the first race starts at 11am most Lions and volunteers have been working for over 4 hours.

Once all the races are run, we're still working - packing equipment away, cleaning the burger van and towing it back and litter picking.

For the next week after Duck Race we are paying out prizes to the lucky duck ticket holders, organising the return of unclaimed "big ducks" and co-ordinating trophy presentations.

Overall despite all the hard work, hopefully we put on a fantastic day for the town and raise lots of money to help us continue giving back to the community, supporting those in need.

See you next year, Duck fans!!

Wow, what a day!!! The weather held for us (just about) and there was a fantastic turn out to see all the ducks racing!!

Thanks will follow tomorrow, but we know people want the results, so see below. Please bear with us - most of our Lions have been working hard all day and are now totally "quackered"! We will be back answering questions and sorting stuff out tomorrow after a well deserved evening off.

Winning ticket holders will be contacted tomorrow to sort out paying you your prizes.

We will be in contact with all the winning Ducks to arrange trophy presentations from Monday.
