Hi everyone
It's your host Terry Couchman of Calne in Tune here. We're have come to the end of the old year, and I would like to wish you all a Very Happy New Year.

Having retired last year after some 15 years’ involvement in running Calne Community Hub I would also like to thank all those wonderful volunteers who stayed with me right to the end.

We survived through two periods of COVID providing incredible support to local community, young, old, disabled, homeless and destitute.

I know we had some challenges from a few ignorant people, along with Wiltshire Council’s Safeguarding Team. But we eventually survived them and told them where to get off.

I am sorry for the distress that these people have caused you. I know many were unable to continue volunteering. I am not finished dealing with them yet – Watch this space.

Thankfully, those young people they provoked with their false claims are now growing up and recognize the help and support you provided them at a challenging point in their lives.

I meet with even now and many of them have said sorry and stated their appreciation for the support they received when every other support had closed its doors to them.

Well done all you volunteers of ‘Calne Community Hub’, and those who worked with us at the ‘Calne Free Church’, ‘Cooperative Supermarkets’, ‘Calne Men’s Shed’ (who lived with us for bit).

So, Again A Very Happy New Year to you all.

Imagine having an allotment like this. Such beautiful cultivations are all around me, all surrounded by trees, some of them bearing Oranges, Lemons and Apples. This is in Cabouco where I am staying, East of Coimbra and south of Porto.

Volunteers Always Needed

Why not join the Calne Community Hub as a Volunteer.

We need people with various Skills, Talents and Interests to help run the Community Hub at Calne Library and help at various Events & Activities throughout the Town. As few as 2 or 3 hours can make all the difference to people’s lives and enrich your own. Our volunteers make a valuable contribution to Community Life, everything from Providing Tea Coffee and a Chat, through Providing Information, Internet Searches, IT Support & Training, Printing & Copying, Arts & Crafts Activity to Company & Companionship.

In return, Volunteers obtained a sense of Community and valuable work experience. Many of our Volunteers go on to get paid work in areas they enjoy. This is the reason that we are always looking for new Volunteers to provide 2 or 3 hours, once or twice a week. We also need people good at organising generally, keeping records, assisting communication, keeping in touch with Members & Volunteers and helping organise Events & Activities in the Library Hub, in the Town Hall and at Stalls in the Friday & Saturday Markets.

If you are interested, please pop into the library, chat to a Volunteer and get an Application Form. You can also email us on [email protected], of Phone/Text me on 07910 173336. All ages and levels of skill welcome. Your Community Needs You. Once you have Applied, please regularly visit the Community Hub, make contact with the various Volunteers and see what days and activities best suit you. Please be patient with us, we are very busy and do not want to rush you. Just persist and become one of our Volunteers. General Volunteers are required just to be available and provide Coffee Tea, Biscuits and a Chat between 10.00 am and 3.30pm. Monday to Saturday. Our Core Volunteer Sessions are Morning from about 9.30 to 12.30 and afternoons from 12.30 to 3.30+ Other than that there are Events and Activities that need covering throughout the Day and Evenings from time to time. Why not put yourself on our list of willing helpers.
